I try and live a simple life---nothing too fancy or spectacular. I love to spend time with my four year old daughter, my husband, my mother, and my grandfather---plus my extended family of five cats (just at my house, eighth if you include the ones at my moms and grandfather's farm) and two dogs at the farm.
Most of my life has been in Allen County. After graduation from Allen County-Scottsville in 1992, I attended Western Kentucky University. As I worked toward my undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Agriculture, I began working at the Child Development Center of First Baptist Church in Bowling Green. Even though I lived in Bowling Green at the time, weekends and holidays were spent at home in southern Allen County.
After graduation from WKU in 1998, I remained at First Baptist until I accepted a teaching position at AC-SH in 2002. I must admit, I was very nervous as I walked into my own high school classroom for the first time. Thanks to the Lord, great teaching colleagues, and a supportive administration, I made it through my first year.
I have seen many changes in my 14 years of teaching. Fellow math teachers have come and gone. A former math teacher of mine (Donna Smith) retired in 2013 while a down-the-hall friend (Myra Little) moved to the library several years ago. Other math teachers have gone to schools out-of-state with newcomers taking their place. The renovations from 2010 to 2013 resulted in me being in four different classrooms in less than two years. This upcoming year will see another change as I move to the Freshman Academy.
The best change in the past 13 years happened on May 19, 2011. God blessed my husband and I with a precious baby girl who we named Marissa. She is the love of my life. Stay around me for any amount of time and you'll here all about her many adventures.
Just a bit more about myself. My husband (Donnie) also works for the school district as well as The Citizen-Times and pastors Faith Baptist Church. We met at WVLE radio in Scottsville. Ask me to tell you that story and my original opinion of him sometime. Professionally, I earned my Masters in School Counseling from WKU in 2007 and, one day, I hope to exchange the classroom for the counselor's office.
As for now, I look forward to this year. I admit, it's going to be a little difficult for me to make the transition to teaching Algebra I for the first time in several years. My door is always open to my students--students who have questions, are struggling with a concept, or just need to talk.
I look ahead with high expectations. My students can expect to be challenged each and every day in the classroom. I expect each student to put forth their best effort and strive to always be prepared, respectful, involved, dependable, and ethical.
Parents, feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns about your child's performance in class. I can be reached by email (
