Todd Cagle is VFW Teacher of the Year

Each year, the Halfrey Dalton VFW Post 5712 recognizes a History/Social Studies teacher for their work in teaching students about the history of America. The recognition comes as part of the VFW's patriot-themed essay contests for students at both the James E. Bazzell Middle School and the Allen County-Scottsville High School. This year, AC-SH educator Todd Cagle was selected as the "Teacher of the Year."

Cagle is in his third year of teaching at Allen County-Scottsville. Prior to teaching, Cagle served 20 years in the US Army with his service including three tours of duty in Iraq with the 101st Airborne and a tour in Afghanistan, Cagle received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Alabama and a Master’s Degree in American History from American Military University.

"I enjoy showing students how history and civics are interconnected and how the events of history have direct effects on us today," Cagle said. "Everything students read about or hear about going on in the world and in our country, especially in today’s political climate, are the direct result of events that have happened in our past," Cagle explained. "It is so important that students know and understand our past so they can be better informed and better understand what is going on around them in the present. In other words people repeat history."

Cagle and his wife are the parents of six kids and grandparents to four kids.
