Swimmers Place Third at Russell

   The Allen County-Scottsville High School swim team opened the 2019-20 season with a third-place finish at the Russell County Fall Preview relay event Saturday at the Russell County Natatorium.  

   For the Lady Patriots, sophomore Leah Hartman swim in four individuals events. Hartman was ninth in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 38.15. In the 50y backstroke, Hartman posted a time of 34.70 and was 10th in the 50yd butterfly in the time of 32.78. Hartman also placed 18th in the 50y freestyle (30:16). Freshman Ella Rickard competed in the 50y free (41:07) and the 50y back (54.23).

   Eighth grader Allison Davis four top-20 finishes in her individuals. Allison Davis was eighth in the 50y breast (37.78), 13th in the 50y fly (34.69) and 20th in both the 50y back (36.90) and the 50y free (30.30). Eighth grader Sarah Davis notched three top 10 finishes and a 12th place in individuals events. Davis was fourth in the 50y breaststroke (35.69), sixth in the 50y back (32.86), ninth in the 50y free (28.86) and 12th in the 50y fly (34.25).

   Eighth-grader Shelby Costello competed in four individual events. Costello had a 33.64 time in the 50y free, 41.75 in the 50y back, and 45.76 in the 50y breast. Eighth grader AnnMarie Shirley competed in the 50y free (39.82), the 50y back (56.89), and the 50y breast (48.14). Eighth grader Mattie Tuttle had a time of 33.14 in the free and 40.20 in the backstroke.

   Seventh grader Emma Brown participated in six events and recorded a pair of 19th place finishes to highlight her individual day. In the 50-yard back, Brown recorded a time of 36.76 and posted a time of 37.24 in the 50y fly. Brown times in other events included 31.96 in the 50y free and 48.52 in the 50y breast.

   In relay events, the team of Allison Davis, Sarah Davis, Brown, and Hartman, placed second in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 2:02.40. The group of Allison Davis, Sarah Davis, Brown, and Hartman was third in the 200-yard fly relay in the time of 2:20.25. Swimmers Costello, Rickard, Shirley, and Tuttle participated in the 200y free relay and posted a time of 2:36.27.

   In the 200y breast, Allison Davis, Sarah Davis, Hartman and Costello had a time of 2:39.10 to finish in second The Davis girls alongside Hartman and Tuttle were second in the backstroke with a time of 2:23.76.

   For the Patriot swimmers, junior Tad Kolton Taylor took top honors in the 50y breaststroke, Taylor covered the distance in 31.54. Taylor also earned third place awards in the 50y freestyle in the time of 24.21 and the 50y fly with a time of 26.71.  Taylor was sixth in the 50y backstroke with a time of 30.33.

   Freshman Aaron Shain competed in four individual events. Shain placed 13th in the 50y free (26.39), 14th in the 50y back (32.35), 14th in the 50y breast (35.00), and 19th in the 50y fly (30.67). Freshman Bradley Wagoner placed 18th in the 50y breast (36.46). Wagoner also competed in the 50 yard free (27.21), the 50y back (36.11), and the 50y fly (39.92). Sophomore Anthony Carranco posted a time of 31.82 in the 50 y free and 40.81 in the in the 50y back.

   Eighth grade swimmer Wessly Butler swam in three individual events. In the 50y free, Butler posted a time of 29.92, had a time of 36.51 in the 50-y back, and a time of 38.43 in the 50y breast. Eighth grader Ryan Wolfe competed in four events, the 50y free (31.36), the 50y back (35.85), the 50y breast (43.14), and the 50y fly (35.09). Seventh grader Kash Taylor took part in the 50y free (31.35) and the 50y breaststroke (48.51).

   In relay competition, the team of Shain, Tad Taylor, Wagoner, and Carranco earned a sixth place in the 200y free relay (1:51.27). Shain, Tad Taylor, Wagoner, and Wolfe recorded a fifth place in the 200y back (2:15.78). Shain, Taylor, Wagoner, and Butler were second in the 200y breast (2:25.48). Shain, Taylor, Wagoner, and Wolfe placed fifth in the 200y fly relay (2:16.32).

   The swim team is scheduled to be back in the water Thursday in a dual meet at Ohio County. Saturday, the swimmers are in competition at the Warren County Invitational.
