Allen County-Scottsville High School senior Madi Gregory has verbally committed to continue her softball career at Campbellsville University,

“I feel relief and I’m super excited,” Gregory said. “I like the location, I like the coaches, and I like the girls a lot. I like the fact that it’s a Christian university and it just felt like home. ”

Gregory has played softball since childhood, continually improving her skills on the diamond through multiple seasons of travel ball as well as at the high school varsity level since middle school. As a member of the AC-S program since eighth grade, Gregory’s offensive numbers have been impressive.

From eighth grade through the conclusion of her junior year, Gregory has played in 138 games, belted 27 home runs, ripped 30 doubles, amassed 137 hits, and collected 136 RBI’s. Gregory’s batting average has increased from .265 as an eighth grader to a .390 clip last spring. Her slugging percentage (total bases divided by total at bats) has improved each season, topping out at .760 last year.

Gregory’s choice of Campbellsville is the latest in a long line of AC-S players who have elected to continue their career with the Lady Tiger program. She admits that was a factor in her decision as was the reality that the current Campbellsville roster includes several players with whom she has played alongside or against in travel and high school ball over the years.

The AC-S senior notes that her travel ball experience---typically each year from late spring till late fall---has enabled her to not only sharpen all aspects of her game but also introduce her to a world of friends from across the country.

“I got to learn and play with a lot more people than I would have in high school alone,” Gregory explained. “I have made many connections that will last a lifetime. It’s crazy that I have come this far. My coaches (with her current Louisville-based travel ball team, KC Freedom) have a goal to get us all committed somewhere for college. Travel ball is a different level and it’s really fun.”

Gregory’s adds that choosing a college at this time will allow her to concentrate on academics this year as well as help the tradition-rich Lady Patriot program in their quest to return to the state tournament next spring---an achievement that is missing from her high school resume.

“I feel like a lot of pressure has been taken off me and I can just go out and play and have fun,” Gregory said.

Gregory will sign with Campbellsville on Wednesday, October 30 in a 1:30 p.m. ceremony at the high school library.
