Allen County-Scottsville High School senior Madi Gregory has inked to play college softball at Campbellsville University. Surrounded by family, friends, current Lady Patriot players and coaches, AC-S administration, and Campbellsville coaches, Gregory made her commitment official Wednesday afternoon at the high school library.

“I feel relief and I’m super excited,” Gregory said. “I like the location, I like the coaches, and I like the players a lot. I like the fact that it’s a Christian university and it just felt like home.”

Multiple seasons of work though travel ball, middle, and high school softball has prepared Gregory to continue to the next level. The infielder has developed her talents with the results evident on the diamond. As a member of the AC-S program since eighth grade, Gregory’s offensive numbers have been impressive.

From eighth grade through the conclusion of her junior year, Gregory has played in 138 games, belted 27 home runs, ripped 30 doubles, amassed 137 hits, and collected 136 RBI’s. Gregory’s batting average has increased from .265 as an eighth grader to a .390 clip last spring. Her slugging percentage (total bases divided by total at bats) has improved each season, topping out at .760 last year.

Gregory’s choice of Campbellsville is the latest in a long line of AC-S players who have elected to continue their career with the Lady Tiger program. She is the eighth Lady Patriot to choose Campbellsville out of high school. Since 2009, Emma Napier and Brittany Rippy enjoyed outstanding four-year careers at Campbellsville and 2017 AC-S graduate Ryley Whitney is currently a member of the Lady Tiger varsity program.

“Madi is a great teammate, a good student, and an even better athlete,” Campbellsville head coach Shannon Wathen said. “She brings a lot to the table. The sky’s is the limit and I think her best days are ahead of her as she gets stronger and is able to focus on softball. Madi swings the bat well enough to come in and help us as she gets stronger and makes the adjustment to the faster game of college softball.”

AC-S coach Robert Bunton feels that Campbellsville is getting a very hard-working student-athlete.

“Madi is an excellent student, a leader on the field, and just an overall great person,” Bunton noted. “I cannot say enough good things about her. I’m excited to see what her future holds.”

Gregory’s adds that signing with a college at this time will allow her to concentrate on academics this year as well as help the tradition-rich Lady Patriot program in their quest to return to the state tournament next spring---an achievement that is missing from her high school resume.

“I feel like a lot of pressure has been taken off me and I can just go out and play and have fun,” Gregory said.

Gregory is the 17-year old daughter of Scotty and Jill Gregory. She is the 29th Patriot fast pitch player in program history who has signed to play college softball.
