ACS swimmers compete in Louisville.

   The Allen County-Scottsville swim team posted several solid finishes in the B Sprint Championships last Saturday at the Ralph Wright Natatorium at the University of Louisville. The event was the final meet prior to this weekend’s Region 2 championships.
 

      The Lady Patriot relay team placed eighth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:26.72. Swimmers Rachel Meador swam the 50y backstroke in a time of 40.78 with Leah Hartman swimming breaststroke on the second leg and posting a time of 38.83. Sarah Hartman swam the third leg in the butterfly in a time of 31.37 with Hayden Petty completing the event with a time of 35.74 in the freestyle. The Lady Patriots relay squad also placed ninth in the 200y free relay. Sarah Hartman opened with a 30.05, followed by Petty’s 36.23 time. Rachel Meador (30.76) and Leah Hartman (31.53) helped AC-S to a time of 2:08.57.

   The Patriots placed 13th in the 200y medley. Tad Kolton Taylor opened with a 31.41 time in the backstroke with Caden McCrary posting a time of 52.77 in the second-leg breaststroke. In the third leg butterfly, Aaron Shain notched the time of 35.51 with Bradley Wagoner completing the relay with a freestyle time of 32.40. Overall, the Patriots finished with a combined time of 2:32.09, three seconds better than their best time coming into the events. Also, the Patriots recorded a time of 2:24.16 in the 200y free relay. Shain swam the opening leg in a time of 32.03, followed by McCrary with a time of 51.26, Wagoner with a time of 35.09, and Taylor in the time of 25.78.

   In individual events, Sarah Hartman earned a second place in the 50y butterfly in the time of 30.35---her time representing a .85 improvement over her entry time. Sarah Hartman also placed seventh in the 50y free in the time of 28.91---.30 seconds faster than her entry time. Meador was 21st in the event in a time of 31.18. Petty had a time of 36.53. Leah Hartman completed the 50y breaststroke in the time of 40.15 to finish seventh. Her time was a 1.26 improvement over her entry time. Petty had a time of 47.17 in the 50y breaststroke. Leah Hartman recorded an eighth place in the 100y individual medley (IM). Hartman posted a time of 1:20.79. In the 50y backstroke, Meador placed 15th in the time of 39.22.

   For the Patriot boys, Taylor recorded a time of 32.77 to finish fifth in the 50y backstroke. His time of 32.77 was 1.05 faster than his entry time. Taylor also swam a time of 26.43 to place 11th in the 50y freestyle. In the same event, Wagoner had a time of 33.42 and McCrary recorded a time of 49.10. Wagoner participated in the 50y breaststroke and posted a time of 47.28 with McCrary recording a time of the 55.62 in the 50y breaststroke as well.  Shain notched a 17th place in the 100y IM in a time of 1:17.77 and was 20th in the 50y fly in the time of 36.56.

   AC-S will participate Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Region 2 championships. The two-day event will begin on Friday with preliminary rounds starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Owensboro Health Park. AC-S will join swimmers from 18 schools---Apollo, Barren County, Bowling Green, Butler County, Daviess County, Franklin-Simpson, Glasgow, Greenwood, Logan County, Monroe County, Muhlenberg County, Ohio County, Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic, Russellville, South Warren, Warren Central, and Warren East.

   The championship round---featuring the top eight times in each event---as well as the consolation round with the next fastest eight times per event will be held Saturday, starting at 11. The top two times in each event plus the next fastest 22 times from region competitions across the Commonwealth qualify for the KHSAA state championships February 22-24 at the University of Louisville.
