The
Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot softball team had a busy week, playing six
games in four days. The busy schedule includes wins over Monroe County, Bowling
Green, and Logan County, losses to Coffee County (TN), and Owensboro Catholic,
and a rare tie with Portland (TN).
A 10-hit offensive attack and a combined
two-hit pitching performance carried the Lady Patriots to a 9-0 shutout of
Monroe County Tuesday (April 10) in Tompkinsville.
Starter Kris-Anne Pardue worked four
innings, threw 59 pitches, surrounded two hits, and recorded six strikeouts.
Karley Burchett pitched the final three innings, allowing no runs and no hits
by the nine batters she faced.
Offensively, three RBI’s by Madi Gregory and
KayLee Stafford and two RBI’s off the bat of Jordan Anderson helped AC-S record
their second district win of the season. Jae McReynolds led the Lady Patriots
with three hits with Stafford and Taylor Stamps adding two hits on the day.
AC-S pushed lone runs across the plate in
the first and second innings before exploding for five runs in the fourth.
Singles by Bailey Ausbrooks, McReynolds, Anderson, and Stamps ignited the Lady
Patriot offense. A two RBI double by Gregory and a Monroe County error gave
AC-S a 7-0 lead. A pair of walks and a two-run single by Stafford lifted AC-S
to a 9-0 lead in the top of the seventh.
A 12-hit offensive attack lifted AC-S to a
five-inning, 14-1 win over Bowling Green in action Wednesday in Scottsville.
The Lady Patriot offense included a home run
from Gregory, a pair of doubles from Kassi Bullington, and doubles from
Ausbrooks and Stafford. Bullington finished with four RBI’s on three hits while
Gregory plated three runs on her two-for-four day. Anderson and Stamps also
recorded two hits Wednesday.
Singles by Stamps, Bullington, and Gregory
staked AC-S to a 3-0 lead after one inning. Bowling Green’s
Jade Nichols launched a home
run in the top of the second only to see AC-S counter with a run in their half
of the inning.
The Lady Patriots broke the game open with a
four run third. Doubles by Ausbrooks and Bullington coupled with two Lady
Purples walks and an error helped AC-S extend their lead to 8-1. The Lady
Patriots added four runs in the bottom of the fourth before Gregory capped the AC-S
scoring with a two-run homer to left center---her team-leading third home run
of the season.
Karley Burchett earned the win for AC-S.
Burchett worked five innings, allowed six hits, and recorded a pair of
strikeouts. Elizabeth Richey suffered the lost for the Lady Purples.
AC-S senior Kris-Anne Pardue recorded a win
and a save Thursday night as the Lady Patriots defeated the Lady Cougars from
Logan County 10-8 in Russellville.
Pardue pitched the game’s first five innings
giving up three runs and five hits. With AC-S leading 10-3 in the sixth, AC-S
coach Robert Bunton turned to Burchett to close out the game. Burchett and the
Lady Patriot defense struggled to close out the game. Logan County plated four
runs in the sixth---the runs coning due to two AC-S errors, a walk, a double,
and a single.
In the home half of the seventh, a leadoff
home run by Kennedy Nichols brought the Lady Cougars to within two runs, 10-8.
Two batters later, Burchett walked Logan County’s Presely Harris to bring the
tying run to the plate. Coach Bunton reentered Pardue to pitch. The senior
struck out Jillian McLellan and Rosie Kerchenski to end the game.
Offensively, AC-S plated runs four runs in
the top of the second. A double by Ausbrooks was followed by singles by
Anderson and Stamps. Gregory’s two-RBI double capped the scoring in the inning.
The Lady Patriots added at least one run in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth
innings to build a 10-3 lead.
Ausbrooks finished the game with three hits
with Kassi Bullington and Pardue each recording a pair of hits in the
game.
Friday proved to be the busiest day of the
week. In an effort to get ahead of Saturday’s rain, the Greenwood Border
Battle----a weekend tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday---was
condensed into a one-night series of games. The result was a schedule in which
the Lady Patriots faced three games in a six-hour span---with time-limit rules
in play.
The result was a 2-2 tie with
Portland----just the fifth time in the history of the program that a game has
ended with a tie.
The Lady Panthers pushed a run home in the
top of the second. The Lady Patriots answered in the home half of the third
when Gregory ripped a double to centerfield scoring Stamps. An inning later,
Stafford’s single score Kaylee Bullington lifting the Lady Patriots to a 2-1
lead. However, Portland countered with a run in the fifth to tie the score. The
Lady Patriots threatened in their final at bat but a base-running mistake ended
the threat.
AC-S finished with nine hits in the
game---Gregory’s double, a pair of singles from Stamps, and lone hits from
Byrn, Pardue, Stafford, Ausbrooks, McReynolds, and Anderson. Portland ripped
seven singles off Pardue who started in the game.
Putting the ball in play was the problem in
the next game Friday evening against Coffee County. Singles off the bats of
Stamps, Kassi Bullington, Byrn, Stafford, and Alex Coleman would be the
offensive out put for the Lady Patriots in the five-inning game. However, AC-S
would have chances to score.
AC-S would have two runners---Coleman and
Stamps---on and one out in the third. An inning later, Byrn (hit by pitch),
Ausbrooks (error), and Stafford (single) loaded the bases, once again with just
one out. In the top of the fifth, AC-S’s Kassi Bullington singled and Gregory
walked. However, back-to-back strikeouts by Byrn and Ausbrooks ended the
threat. For the game, AC-S left seven on base,
Coffee County pounded 11 hits off Burchett.
The Tennessee school plated three runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Offense continued to be a struggle for AC-S
in Friday’s nightcap. Against Owensboro Catholic, Anderson, Stafford, and Byrn
would record the only hits in the game---a contest in which AC-S plated the first
run of the game.
In the top of the first, Stamps reached on
an error by Catholic shortstop Hailey Carter. Stamps moved to second on the
sacrifice bunt by Kassi Bullington. Two batters later, Byrn drove Stamps home
with a single.
The Lady Aces added a run in the home half
of the first to tie the game. In the second, Owensboro plated four---scoring
their runs following a single, two doubles, and a triple. Catholic finished the
game with 10 hits off the pitching of Pardue.
AC-S (11-3-1) will be back in action Friday afternoon against Logan County (4-2) in a home game---a makeup of a rainout from earlier in the season. Tuesday, AC-S will entertain Monroe County (9-4) before a road game to South Warren (4-2) on Wednesday---the makeup from a game called last Monday due to snow and cold.
