The
JROTC Program at the Allen County-Scottsville High School honored their own
Monday at the high school in the fourth annual JROTC Awards ceremony. Multiple
awards were presented to cadets in special recognition of leadership achievements,
academic involvement, fitness, and overall program participation.
The Cadet of the Year award and
the Senior’s Army’s Instructor Award was presented to senior Nina Guerrero. Ethan
Miller received the Army’s Instructor’s Award. Most Improved Cadet awards were
given to Dawson Parker and Libby Shanahan.
In addition, the Military
Officers Association America Award was presented to Jonah Coomer. The Military
Order of the World Wars Award was given to Travis Moser. American Legion awards
were presented to Rylee Beaulieu (Gold), Alexis Cherry (Silver) and John Gaddis
(Bronze). Frankie Estes and Jackie Williams received Daughters of American
Revolution Outstanding Cadet awards. The Sons of the American Revolution Award
were earned by Scott Whitney. The Military Order of the Purple Heart Award was
presented to Kane Tangen.
Additional recognition
included the Celebrate Freedom Award presented to Cole Charlton, the Army Guard
Award to Austin Threet, and the Retired Officer Association of the United
States Award to Chris Steele.
The Superior Cadet Academic Awards
from the Department of the Army were presented to a member of each class. Kelly
Smallcanyon received the Senior Award, Cole Charlton earned the Junior Award,
Ray Ouelette received the Sophomore Award, and Jeffrey Haney was presented with
the Freshman Award.
The Army Scholar-Athlete Male
Athlete Award was earned by Ethan Miller with Shy Grainger receiving the Army
Scholar-Athlete Female Award.
The Presidential Fitness Challenge Award
winners were Gage Spearman, Ethan Miller, Hunter Casada, and Nina Guerrero. National
Fitness Challenge Awards were received by cadets Cole Charlton, Taylor Driver,
Jackie Williams, Frankie Estes, Shy Grainger, Sierra Hooten, Ray Ouellette,
Robert Simpson, Austin Buchanan, Zack Emberton, and Julian Simmons.
Steven Whitney received the
Physical Fitness Top Male Athlete Award with Nina Guerrero receiving the top
Female Athlete Award. The Top Male and Female Marksmanship Awards went to Ethan
Miller and Jessica Woods.
Several
students were recognized for the Cadets Mentorship Program. The group include Ethan Miller, Chris
Steele, Jackie Williams, Nick Tangen, Rylee Beaulieu, Nina Guerrero, Steven
Whitney, Cole Charlton, Tyler Petty, Alexis Cherry, Mary Bunch, Austin Threet, and
Dawson Parker. The cadets have spent the school year mentoring students at the
James E. Bazzell Middle School.
Monday’s presentations were made by JROTC
instructors Col. Ron Turner and CSM Joey Simpson along with AC-SH assistant
principal Chris Vernon.
