The Allen County-Scottsville recorded a pair of impressive wins last week. Tuesday, a three-hit shutout performance on the mound by senior Sheldon Peay helped the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots defeat the Glasgow Scotties. Friday, Jordan Charlton hurled a six-hit gem to aid the Patriots in a 5-2 win over the South Warren Spartans.

The dark spot was Thursday. Bowling Green used an eight-hit effort to post seven runs in a 7-5 win over ACS. The Patriots struggled offensively, finishing with three hits and leaving nine runners on base,

Against Glasgow, Peay threw 56 pitches to the 23 batters he faced in a dominating effort. The senior right-hander recorded four strikeouts, induced Scotties batters to ground out 15 times, and hurled 40 strikes in seven innings of work.

Offensively, the Patriot runs came on five hits. AC-S designated hitter Hunter Foster singled home Warren Bray in the second for the first round of the game. In the home half of the third, Marcus Carter’s single plated courtesy runner Dusty Craft to stake AC-S to a 2-0 lead. Peay finished the game with a single and double with Bray accounting for the other hit of the game for AC-S.

Thursday, the Purples jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Bowling Green’s Will Garske two-out walk was followed by a run-scoring single by Joe Howard. A double by Trevor Dennis plated Howard.

The Patriots sliced the lead to one with a run on the third. Aaron Howell reached after being hit by the pitched, moved to second on a passed ball, and later scored on a Purple fielding error. After Bowling Green added a pair of runs in the four after a walk and two singles, the Patriots countered as Owen Stamper scored after a hit by Hunter Foster. The Purples added a fifth run in the fifth and plated two more runners in the sixth to open a 7-2 lead.

AC-S staged a late rally, adding three runs in the home half of the sixth---all coming with two outs. Cayden Ross reached on a Purple error by shortstop Howard to start the comeback. A second error by Howard left runners at first and second. Rippy proceeded to hit a grounder to Purple third baseman Charlie Key who failed to field the ball---a third error that allowed Ross to score. Peay followed with a two-RBI double to pull the Patriots within two, 7-5.

Howell relieved Zack Ausbrooks in the seventh. The Purples put two runners on base before the inning ended as Howell fielded a line drive to the mound and fired to first to cap the play and escape the inning.    In their final at bat, Warren Bray walked, bringing Foster to the plate. However, the AC-S designated hitter struck out to end the game.

Bowling Green batters pounded eight hits in the game to score their seven runners. AC-S was held to three hits---a single and double by Peay and Foster’s single in the third. Foster---who started the game on the mound---worked the game’s first four innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Foster struck out two of the 19 batters he faced on the day.

Friday, AC-S achieved a first with their win over South Warren. Since the Bowling Green school opened in 2010, the Spartans had dominated the Patriots. South Warren entered Friday with a 12-0 all-time record against AC-S, a streak that ended thanks to a strong performance by Charlton and timely offense by Stamper and Carter.

Patriot leadoff batter Tristan Brooks reached second base to open the game for AC-S. Moments later, Peay’s single to center field scored Brooks for the first AC-S run of the game.

Charlton gave up back-to-back singles in the second. An AC-S error followed with two following groundout leading to a pair of Spartan runs---and a 2-1 lead for the visitors. Charlton settled down and would not allow a run the rest of his time on the mound. Charlton tossed 79 pitches in six innings of work, recorded two strikeouts, and faced 27 batters. Charlton hurled a first-pitch strike to 14 of the 27 batters.

The Patriots tied the game in the fourth as Marcus Carter blasted a home run. In the sixth, AC-S took control with Carter igniting the charge. After reaching on a single, Carter moved to second on a walk by Foster. Carter would steal third and score the go ahead run as Howell reached on an error. A second South Warren error allowed Foster to score. Another Spartan error---their fourth of the game---enabled Howell to score the game’s fifth run. In relief, Stamper closed out the Spartans (5-6) in the seventh.

AC-S finished the night with six hits led by Carter’s 2-3 night. Stamper also recorded two hits along with one hit from Peay and Howell.

The Patriots (5-2) have a busy week of baseball. Thursday, the team travels to Franklin-Simpson before hosting this weekend’s Border Battle. Friday, AC-S will play Smith County (TN) at 7:30. Saturday, the Patriots face Jackson County (TN) at 9:30 a.m. and then play Gallatin (TN) at 5 that afternoon. Tuesday, AC-S faced Glasgow (6-3) at Gorin Park in Glasgow.
