Patriots Rally to Down Falcons

   The Allen County-Scottsville Patriots overcame an early five-run deficit to down Monroe County 9-5 in Tuesday afternoon action on the diamond in Scottsville.

 

   The Falcons scored five times in the second. A walk, single, and hit batsman was followed by Tucker Kirkpatrick’s base-clearing double. Kirkpatrick later scored on a hit from teammate Dylan Emberton, staking the Falcons to a 5-0 lead.

 

   The Patriots rally began with four runs in the bottom of the third. Tristan Brooks tripled to start the comeback and scored on a hit by Owen Stamper. Sheldon Peay followed with a single. Marcus Carter cleared the bases with a three-run home run to pull the Patriots to within one.

 

   AC-S took the lead an inning later. Brett Rippy and Cayden Ross walked off Falcon reliever Austyn Belcher. Brooks ripped a single to plate Rippy and tie the game. Ross scored the go ahead run following a steal of third base and a fielding error on the Monroe County (3-3) defense.

 

   The Patriots capped the comeback with three runs in the fifth. Singles by Hunter Foster, Warren Bray, and Rippy were followed by a Monroe error---one of four on the day for the Falcons. After Bray scored, a second error in the inning allowed Rippy to score with Ross plating the team’s ninth run following a single by Brooks.

 

    Despite allowing six hits, senior Sheldon Peay recorded the win for AC-S. Peay worked the first five innings, faced 25 batters, threw 94 pitches, and struck out four. Peay started with first-pitch strikes 18 times. Howell closed the game ion the hill. The side-armed pitcher struck out two batters and allowed one hit over the final two innings.

 

   Offensively, Brooks went 3-3 on the day with two RBI’s and a walk. Stamper added two hits. Carter led the team with three RBI’s. Overall, the Patriots finished with 10 hits.

 

   AC-S (6-2, 3-0) travel to Franklin-Simpson (10-5) Thursday. Friday, the team will host a Border Battle which will see the Patriots play against Tennessee three times in a 24-hour period. Friday, AC-S faces Smith County at 7:30. Saturday morning at 9:30, AC-S plays Jackson County. The Patriots close the weekend with a Saturday afternoon game against Gallatin.
