Basketball Season Underway


  The
Allen County-Scottsville High School Lady Patriot and Patriot basketball teams split a girl-boy doubleheader Tuesday night against Barren County. In girls’ action, the Lady Patriots defeated the Trojanettes, 46-39. In the nightcap, the Trojans downed the Patriots, 57-46.

   The Lady Patriots were led by sophomores Sarah Sutton and Mason Towery. Sutton scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Towery added a career-high 19 points and snatched five rebounds. Junior Sydney Day recorded a career-high seven rebounds.

    Sophomore guard Brett Rippy paced the Patriots with an 11 point, four rebound game. Junior forward Marcus Carter contributed nine points and five rebounds. Seniors Jack Ward and Kerby Carver added eight points.

 
   Tuesday’s games capped off the first week of the 2016-17 basketball season. The Lady Patriots opened the year suffering a 58-36 setback at the hands of South Warren despite a 19-point effort by Sutton. Saturday, Sutton scored 20 points with Towery adding 17 as AC-S defeated Corbin 46-45. 

 
The Patriots dropped their season-opener to South Warren 54-46 before bouncing back with a 56-54 win at Edmonson County. Rippy keyed the Patriot win with a 16-point game including sinking the game-winning basket in the final seconds. Carter also had an outstanding game against the Wildcats notching the first double-double of his career, 10 points and 15 rebounds.


  The Lady Patriots (2-1,1-0) will join the Patriots (1-2,0-1) in a road trip to face the Lady Panthers (0-3) and Panthers (2-2) at Cumberland County Friday night. The Lady Patriots will also be in action Saturday night at 7:30 against Muhlenberg County (3-0) in the Independence Bank Classic at Owensboro Catholic. Both squads will host Warren East Tuesday, December 13.
