Patriots Drop Game to Raiders

Patriots Drop Game to Raiders

The Allen County-Scottsville Patriots dropped a 10-4 decision to Warren East Thursday afternoon at Warren East High School in Bristow.

The Patriots held the Raiders---rated 11th in the state in the preseason Kentucky high School baseball coaches association poll---scoreless until the home half of the third. After Patriot pitcher Sheldon Peay hit East’s Ty Colson, Raider Davion Downey launched a homer to center field to give East a 2-0 lead.

The raiders added five runs in the fifth inning. Colson reached on a bunt off AC-S reliever Seth Davis. A single by Ty Stringfield was followed by a walk to Downey. Matt Alford’s two-run single was followed by a double off the bat of East’s Ryan Hawks. Moments later, a single off the bat of Dakota Basham plated courtesy runner Chauncey Greer staking the hosts to a 7-0 lead.

AC-S lone offensive inning came in the top of the sixth. Patriots Cayden Ross and Brett Rippy reached base on back-to-back Raider errors. Ross came around to score on a single by Peay. Rippy was caught stealing and AC-S’s Tristan Brooks went down swinging for the first two outs of the inning. After a single by Owen Stamper, pinch-hitter Hagan Foster walked after which Peay scored on a passed ball. Aaron Howell reached on an error---a miscue that allowed Stamper to score the third run of the inning. Foster scored the fourth run of the game for AC-S.

Warren East countered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Two singles and a double staked the Raiders to a 9-4 lead. A two-out RBI by Hawks lifted East to the 10-4 lead. AC-S put two runners on base in the seventh before a ground out by Brooks and a fly out by Stamper ended the game.

The Patriots finished the game with five hits---singles off the bats of Ross, Peay, Stamper and Marcus Carter. AC-S left seven runners on base and had two baserunners thrown out on steal attempts.

Peay surrounded four hits and two runs in his four innings of work. Davis gave up four hits and five runs in his time on the mound. Foster and Jordan Charlton also saw action on the mound for AC-S in the game. Warren East finished with 13 hits.
