Sarah Fisher Named Volleyball Coach

Sarah Fisher was introduced Friday afternoon as the new volleyball coach at Allen County-Scottsville High School. Fisher replaces Randy Cook who stepped down last December in order to spend more time with his family.

“I have always enjoyed this sport,” coach Fisher said. “I love the girls and when the head coach position came open, I felt like it was just my time to step up. I am very excited about it.”

Fisher is a 2011 graduate of Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown. She was a four-year member of the Lady Bruins volleyball program, serving as the team’s defensive specialist. As a senior in the fall of 2010, Fisher helped lead Central Hardin to the Region 5 championship and an appearance in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Tournament. The Lady Bruins finished 35-6 that year and were a combined 108-42 during Fisher’s four years of high school. Central Hardin was also the Region 5 runner-up in 2007 and 2008.

After graduating from Western Kentucky University, Fisher was employed as a math educator at the James E. Bazzell Middle School. Given her love for volleyball and background in the game, Fisher joined the Lady Patriot coaching staff for the 2016 season.

Coach Fisher feels that assisting last year is a positive as she steps into her new role.

“I know their positions, how they play, and I know their personalities,” coach Fisher explained. “I think that it will help a lot being the assistant last year. I learned a lot from coach Cook. ”

Fisher inherits a volleyball program looking to build upon last year’s 14-12 worksheet. The Lady Patriots were District 15 runner-up and appeared in the Region 4 tournament for a fifth consecutive year. AC-S is expected to return three seniors and five starters, including Region 4 All-Tournament player Baylea Cook and senior teammates Nicole Carver and Adrianna Webb. Starters Kalee Baldwin, Meg Foster, and Macy Ward are also expected to return.

“I see the team being very competitive,” coach Fisher added. “I think we could win a district championship and hang a banner. We had a young team last year but this year, with a year of experience under our belts, I think that we will be very competitive.”

Fisher will be the fifth volleyball coach in the 15-year history of the program. The program started in 2001 under coach Kari Young. Mary Mihok succeeded Young and led the program from 2008 until 2010. Julie Spurlock coached the squad for five seasons until stepping aside following the 2015 season.

AC-S has posted four 20-win seasons (2002, 2003, 2008, 2013) and seven winning seasons (2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016). Lady Patriot teams have yet to claim a District 15 championship but have reached the regional tournament 10 times. The program’s best finish was as a Region 4 semifinalist in 2008.
