ACSH Choir Teacher Honored

The Third District Music Educators Association has selected Allen County-Scottsville High School choir teacher Megan Puckett as their District High School Music Teacher of the Year.

“I am really honored, first to have been nominated by a friend and them to have been chosen to represent our district for the award,” Puckett said.

The award recognizes Puckett for her time and dedication to her work with her students at AC-SH and with the Kentucky Music Education Association. Puckett leads the choir at Allen County-Scottsville---work that includes helping students enhance their singing skills, prepping students for local concerts, and preparing students for district and state auditions. Puckett has also worked with students in the production of two musicals during the past school years. Puckett teaches choir at the James E. Bazzell Middle School as well and has worked with the high school band during their summer camp.

“I believe in what we do for kids through the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA),” Puckett noted. “The award is also recognition for my work with KMEA which has included a stint overseeing high school auditions for all-state high school students. Each year, there are about 600 students in the all-state choirs and three directors from around the country in charge. Its hard work to make sure auditions run smoothly.”

Puckett can apply for the KMEA High School Music Teacher of the Year honors. The application process would include submitting to state KMEA officials a statement of her music education philosophy, recommendations, and other required materials.
