Volleyball Drops Opener

Volleyball Drops Opener

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot volleyball team dropped a 2-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-20) match to Warren East in the season-opener Monday afternoon at Patriot Gym.

“I was very pleased with the girls' hustle,” noted coach Sarah Fisher. “We did our best, just came up a little short.”

The Lady Patriots won the first set behind strong team play---a set marked by 11 ties. With the score deadlocked at 15, strong serving by Macy Ward helped AC-S put together a 4-0 run. East answered and pulled even at 20 before AC-S took control and closed out the set. A winner off the hands of Chloe Cook and solid defense at the net by Baldwin and Nichole Carver helped AC-S to the 25-22 first set win.

In the second set, both teams played solid. The game was tied at one, three, four, six, seven, nine, 10, and 11 before the Lady Raiders edged ahead. AC-S answered and close the gap, evening the match at 16 on a service winner by Olivia Brown. The Lady Raiders answered with an 8-2 run to close the win the set 25-18.

AC-S started slow in the third set, falling behind 3-0. The result led to an uphill battle the rest of the way. Still, strong serving by Baylea Cook, kills by Chloe Cook and Jaden Carter, and solid shots by Meg Foster and Kalee Baldwin enabled the hosts to knot the game at 17. AC-S edged ahead 18-17 before Warren East closed the third and final set on an 8-2 run to take the match.

The opening match left coach Fisher with a few things to work on this week.

“In the coming days, we will be working on blocking and communicating on the court,” Fisher noted.

AC-S (0-1) hosts Barren County Tuesday. The team is scheduled to return next Monday with a road match at Warren Central.
