Patriot Basketball Holds Banquet

Patriot Basketball Holds Banquet

The Allen County-Scottsville High School boys’ basketball banquet was held last Saturday, March 24, at the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension office in Scottsville. Outgoing AC-S coach Lex Lindsey recognized the Patriot team for their hard work and dedication this year.

Senior Jack Ward received the James E. Bazzell Most Valuable Player/Player-of-the-Year Award. Ward finished his senior season second on the team in scoring (12 points per game) and led the team in field goal percentage. Ward shot 55.1 percent from the floor making 141 of his 256 shots for the season. Ward also received the Most Steals Award (50) and was named as the Defensive Player-of-the-Year. Ward led AC-S in scoring or shared scoring honors 11 times this year. Ward was also the team’s best free throw shooter by percent, making 51 of 69 foul shots for a 73.9 mark.

Additional statistical award winners included junior Marcus Carter---the winner of the Leading Rebounder Award. Carter finished the season with 202 rebounds, just under seven rebounds per game. Carter grabbed 38 offensive and 164 defensive rebounds in his 29 games. Carter also received the Most Blocks Award (35).

Sophomore Brett Rippy received awards for Leading Scorer, Best 3-Point shooting, and Assists. Rippy averaged 12.7 points per game and dished out 73 assists, an average of 2.5 per game. The sophomore also sank 58 of 137 three-point shot attempts for a 42.3 shooting percentage.

Award winners at the varsity level in non-statistical categories were announced. Senior Kerby Carver earned the Most Improved Player Award and the Leadership Award. Senior Ryan Conner received the Coaches Award. Senior Dillon Reid was presented the Determination Award while senior Wesley Fisher received the Persistence Award. Senior Will Calvert earned the Best Teammate Award. Junior Same Clarke received the Sixth Man and 110% awards, junior Brock Meador received the Work Horse Award, and sophomore Cayden Ross was presented with the Most Competitive Award.

Assistant coaches Casey Napier and Brandon Dewitt presented awards to junior varsity and freshman players. On the JV squad, Sam Clarke was named Offensive MVP while Chase Ward earned the Defensive MVP Award. Sean Carter was recognized as the Most Improved Player with Camden Carver earning the Coaches Award. At the freshman level, Charlie Calvert was named Offensive Player-of-the-Year and Alejandro Segura received the Defensive Player of the Year. Owen Stamper was named as the Freshman Most Valuable Player.

AC-S finished the season with a record of 10-19. The team will lose six seniors to graduation; Will Calvert, Kerby Carver, Ryan Conner, Wesley Fisher, Dillon Reid, and Jack Ward. In addition, coach Lindsey announced last month that he will not return for a second season. The coaching search continues with a new coach expected to be named later this spring.
