Volleyball Improves to 6-2

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot volleyball teams downed Warren Central 2-0 (25-23, 25-22) Monday to record their sixth win of the year and extend their win streak to four matches. Last week, AC-S defeated Monroe County 2-0 (25-22, 25-14) and Franklin-Simpson 2-0 (25-16, 25-16).

The opening set of Monday’s win over Warren Central was marked by close play throughout. The set featured eight ties and four lead changes before the Lady Patriots pulled away for the win. AC-S closed out the set aided a kill by Chloe Cook, a winner from Adrianna Webb, and a powerful smack down by Kalee Baldwin.

The Lady Patriots broke open a 3-3 tie in the second set and controlled the tempo the rest of the way. The Lady Dragons bounded back from an 18-12 deficit with a 6-1 run before AC-S answered. Strong serves from Olivia Brown and solid team play enabled AC-S to close out the set and finish the match.

Monday’s victory came on the heels of a pair of solid performances last week.

“These wins have helped the girls change their mindset about themselves and their ability as a team,” coach Sarah Fisher said. “I, and the rest of the coaching staff, have always been able to see the potential that they have. Now they can see it as well, which is huge. The wins have really boosted the girl’s morale and connection to one another on the court.”

The Monroe County win marked the first time since 2013 that AC-S had defeated Monroe County (7-3). The Lady Falcons are the reigning District 15 champion and has been a mark of consistency in the past several years. Thursday’s win at Franklin-Simpson (6-6) snapped a four match-winning streak for the Lady Cats.

AC-S (6-2) travels to Glasgow (4-2) Tuesday and will play Edmonson County (10-3) Thursday in Brownsville. Next Monday, the Lady Patriots---2-0 in District action---travels to Barren County (2-11). Next Tuesday, AC-S will face Greenwood (11-1) in Bowling Green.
