Baseball Drops District Game

The Allen County-Scottsville Patriot baseball team dropped a third consecutive game in which the opponents have won in their last at-bat. Tuesday, Barren County scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat AC-S 5-4 in a District 15 match-up in Glasgow.

The loss overshadowed an afternoon in which the Patriots ripped nine hits. Sophomore Tristan Brooks led the offense with a double, single, and walk. Freshman Owen Stamper notched two hits and an RBI in the game. However, the Patriots left nine runners on base.

Defensively, junior pitcher Sheldon Peay allowed four earned runs, surrounded 10 hits, and struck out two in the loss. AC-S finished the game with three errors.

Brooks opened the game with a walk and later scored the first Patriot run on a passed ball. Stamper’s single in the inning plated Warren Bray and lifted the visitors to a 2-0 lead.

After Barren County got on the board in the second, the Patriots pushed two runs across in the third. Three consecutive singles off the bats of Peay, Marcus Carter, and Stamper loaded the bases. An infield single by Cayden Ross and a sacrifice fly by Brett Rippy lifted the Patriots to a 4-1 lead.

The Trojans climbed to within one following a two run fourth inning. The Patriots left solo runners on base in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings---giving Barren County the opportunity to win in their final at bat. After a one-out single by Grant Bowen, Barren’s Isaac Reynolds blasted a triple to left field tie the game. Luke Well followed with a single to left field, plating Reynolds, and giving Barren County their third district win of the year.

AC-S (7-12) will host Warren East (14-5) Thursday afternoon at Patriot Field. The Patriots will play Green County (5-7) at home on Saturday prior to welcoming Barren County (7-11) next Tuesday in a district rematch.
