Coach "C" Takes Reigns of Patriot basketball.

Allen County-Scottsville High School introduced Nick Chaykowsky as the new Patriot basketball coach Friday afternoon at the school library. Chaykowsky brings 30 years of high school and collegiate basketball coaching experience to the rebuilding Patriot program.

As a high school player, Chaykowsky was a three-year letterman at Lecanto High School in Lecanto Florida. Following graduation in 1986, Chaykowsky was a walk-on letterman at the University of Tampa (FL). After one year as a player, Chaykowsky served as a student assistant basketball coach at the University of Tampa. After earning his Bachelor of Science Degree from Tampa in 1992, Chaykowsky worked as an assistant at Florida College in Temple Terrace (FL) and Lake City Community College in Lake City (FL). Chaykowsky earned his Master of Science in Education degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale (FL) in 1997.

Transitioning into high school coaching and teaching, Chaykowsky coached at River Ridge High School in New Port Richey (FL), Long County High School in Ludowici (GA), Alexander High School in Douglasville (GA), and McEachern High School in Powder Springs (GA). While at McEachern, Chaykowsky led his team to a two-year record of 46-12, a pair of region championships, a number-one state ranking, the championship of the prestigious Kingdom of the Sun tournament, and a pair of Coach-of-the-Year honors in 2007.

Chaykowsky moved to Kentucky in 2008 and began a four-year career as head coach at Ballard Memorial. The Bombers were 56-55 under Chaykowsky and won the 2010 Region 1 All-A Region tournament. Chaykowsky spent two seasons at Union County (KY) before returning to the college ranks at an assistant coach at Shawnee Community College in Ullin Illinois. In addition to coaching at Shawnee, Chaykowsky currently serves as an assistant athletic director and math teacher at Henderson County High School in Henderson (KY).

Overall, Chaykowsky has 12 years of experience as an assistant in collegiate coaching and 18 years of high school coaching experience---including 15 years as a varsity head coach in three states. Chaykowsky has been a part of collegiate programs that have posted a record of 305-126. As a high school coach, Chaykowsky has an overall won-loss record of 211-208. His record as a high school assistant coach is 58-34 giving him an overall coaching record (assistant and head coach) of 574-368 in 30 years.

The Chaykowsky resume includes coaching nine players who have entered the professional ranks, six All-Americans, 16 All-Conference players, seven All-State players, and one Mr. Basketball player. His personal coaching accomplishments (high school and college combined) include three Coach-of-the-Year honors, three state tournament appearances, eight regional tournament appearances, two district championships, and a conference championship.

The new coach inherits an AC-S team that posted a 10-19 record last season under coach Lex Lindsey who resigned in February. The Patriots are expected to return three starters including the team’s leading scorer (Brett Rippy-12.7 points-per-game) and leading rebounder (Marcus Carter-7.0 rebounds-per- game).

AC-S will enter the 2017-18 season with an overall record of 594-596 since the consolidation of Allen County and Scottsville in 1974. The Patriots have won 11 District 15 championships (81, 82, 84,92,94,95, 05, 06, 07, 09,10) and two regional titles (81,96) since 1974. Chaykowsky will be the 14th coach in AC-S program history.
