Community Welding Classes Scheduled

The Allen County Career and Technical Center (ACCTC) will be offering a pair of community education welding classes later this year. The classes will be an Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick Welding) and an Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG Welding).

The Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding course is designed to teach students the identifications, inspections, and maintenance of Shielded Metal Arc Welding electrodes, the principles of Shielded Arc Welding, and the effects of variables on the Shielded Metal Arc Welding process to weld plate. The lab course teaches the practical application and manipulative skills of Shielded Metal Arc Welding and the proper safety situations needed in this process to perform fillet welds in all positions.

The Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding course is designed to teach students the about the identifications, inspections, and maintenance of Gas Metal Arc Welding machines, identification, selection, and storage of Gas Metal Arc Welding electrodes, the principles of the Gas Metal Arc Welding process, and the effects of variables on the Gas Metal Arc Welding process. Theory and applications of related processes such as FCAW, SAW, and metallurgy are also included. The lab course teaches the practical application and manipulative skills of Gas Metal Arc Welding and the proper safety situations needed in this process. Ferrous metals will be covered as well as various joint designs on plate in all positions.

The cost for the classes is $200 per class. The charge covers the class tuition, the use of the classroom and lab, and materials (steel, electrodes, shielding gas, etc.). Each class is limited to 15 students and a minimum of 10 students are required for the class to be held. Payment is due at the time of registration with checks payable to the ACCTC. Registration forms are available at the Tech Center (weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.).
