Allen County-Scottsville High School has chosen a veteran coach to guide the Lady Patriot basketball program. Greg Dunn---a former head coach at Portland (TN) and Greenwood---was introduced Wednesday afternoon as the new head coach of the tradition-rich program. Dunn steps back to the sidelines for the first time in 14 years and returns to the school where he served as principal from 2004 through 2008.

A graduate of Bowling Green High School and Western Kentucky University, Dunn launched his education career at Portland High School in the late 1980s. Dunn also served as an assistant boys basketball coach and later as the head girls coach at the Tennessee school.

In 1993, Dunn returned to Kentucky to teach and coach at Greenwood High School. Dunn was on staff in 1994 when the Lady Gators won the Region 4 championship. A year later, Dunn moved up to serve as head coach

Under Dunn’s guidance, Greenwood posted a 135-121 record over a nine-year span. Dunn led the Lady Gators to District 14 championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003. During that three-year stretch, Dunn’s team combined for a 67-24 record. The highlight moment came in 2001 when Greenwood reached the Region 4 title game before dropping a 32-30 decision to AC-S. Greenwood advanced to the Region 4 tournament semifinals in 2002 and 2003.

Following a 13-14 campaign in the 2003-2004 season, Dunn resigned from Greenwood to accept the principal’s position at Allen County-Scottsville. After six years with Allen County Schools, Dunn returned to Warren County where he has served as an assistant principal at Warren Central and later as principal at Greenwood. In June, Dunn retired from education.

Dunn steps into an AC-S program that will look to improve upon last season’s 18-12 record. The Lady Patriots are expected to be led by seniors Sarah Sutton, Mason Towery, and Jaylee Woods.

Sutton---who will sign with Murray State University in November—averaged 18.6 points and 7.7 rebounds last season. She begins her sixth season with the Lady Patriots as the program’s sixth all-time scorer (1,617). Towery contributed 13.5 points and 5.8 rebounds and ranks as the 14th all-time scorer (1,033) in Lady Patriot history. Woods averaged 3.7 points prior a December ACL tear that sidelined her for the remainder of the season.

Dunn replaces Brad Bonds who stepped aside in May to assume the coaching duties for the AC-S boys basketball program. The new coach is the seventh individual to coach the AC-S girls basketball program.

AC-S enters their 45th season of girls’ basketball with an overall program record of 808-442. The Lady Patriot program was the 2015 state tournament runner-up, dropping a 35-32 game to Holy Cross in the finals. The program has won eight Region 4 titles (76,77,79,85,99,00,01,15) and 18 District 15 titles (78,79,80,82,83,84,85,86,87,88,89,90,91,92,00,01,13,15).
