ACS Volleyball Open Season with Win

(by Don Meador, Allen County Schools)

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot volleyball team recorded a 2-0 (25-21, 25-18) win over Edmonson County in the season opener for both teams.

The Lady Patriot strikers raced to a 14-3 lead early in the match behind solid serving. Aces by Olivia Brown and Averie Pitchford coupled with strong play at the net from C.J. Towe, Chloe Cook, and Meg Foster keyed the early charge.

AC-S remained in the lead and recorded the set win despite a struggle to close out the set. A Brown ace gave the Lady Patriots a 24-12 lead. However, the Lady Cats answered with clutch play, outscoring AC-S 9-0 to pull within three. A kill from Layla Carter ended the Edmonson County run and gave AC-S the first set win.

Edmonson County carried their momentum into the second set. The Lady Cats grabbed an early 7-4 lerad before the Lady Patriots battled back to tie the set at 10 following a winner from Cook. A kill from Layla Carter put her team in front to stay. Pitchford would finish the set strong, knocking down a series of service winners to allow AC-S to record the win.

AC-S finished with a hit percentage of .294. The Lady Patriots also recorded 13 aces in the win.

The upcoming schedule has AC-S traveling to Owensboro this weekend to participate in the Apollo Summer Slam. On Friday, the Lady Patriots will play Muhlenberg County and Henderson County prior to entering bracket play on Saturday.
