ACS Volleyball Grabs Pair of Wins in Owensboro

   The Allen County-Scottsville volleyball team posted wins over Muhlenberg County and McLean County but fell to station Camp (TN), Henderson County, Frederick Douglass, and Warren East in action this past week.

   The week opened with a Wednesday afternoon contest against a Tennessee powerhouse. Station Camp dominated the three-set match. In the opening set, the Bison’s long front line overpowered AC-S in a 25-6 win. Station Camp took the second set 25-8 and closed out the match with a 25-7 third-set win. 

   For the Lady Patriots, Meg Foster recorded three kills and eight assists. Olivia Brown had six digs with Jaden Carter recording four digs. Anna Walker added a pair of kills in the match. 

   Friday and Saturday action took place in Owensboro as the Lady Patriots participated in the Apollo Summer Slam tournament. In pool play on Friday, the Lady Patriots opened with a 2-1 (25-19, 22-25, 15-9) win over Muhlenberg County (4-4). 

   Foster had 21 assists in the match, helping her teammates to post impressive numbers. C.J. Towe finished with six kills. Maddie Stallings had six kills, recorded a pair of blocks, and served up five aces. Layla carter posted three kills and served two aces. Chloe Cook had five kills, seven digs, and served five aces. Rachel Moore had four digs and Brown recorded nine digs. Ava walker blocked three shots by the Lady mustangs. 

   In Friday’s nightcap, Henderson County (3-4) edged AC-S 2-0 (25-20, 25-23). Foster dished out 11 assists and served four aces. Towe (four) and Cook (five) combined for nine kills. Brown (six), Avery Pitchford (three) and Moore (four) combined for 13 digs. 

   The Lady Patriots downed the Lady cougars from McLean County (1-6) to start bracket play on Saturday. AC-S took the first set 25-21 and won the second 25-14. Foster again was a key assist player, finishing with 13 along with four aces. Cook had three digs, aces, and kills. Brown reached down for seven digs and served three aces. Walker and Towe recorded four kill shots while Stallings had three kills, three blocks, and three aces. 

   AC-S dropped their final two matches---2-0 to Frederick Douglass (25-7, 25-20) and a 2-1 loss to Warren East (25-23, 13-25, 11-15). Against the Lady Broncos (6-1), Foster recorded five kills, four aces, and six assists. Brown had six digs with Cook adding four digs. Defensively, Walker and Stallings each recorded a pair of blocks. Stallings also registered two digs and two aces. 

   In the three-set loss to East, Brown tallied eight digs. Cook finished with two kills, four aces, and two digs. Foster recorded eight assists and four kills. 

   AC-S (3-4) is scheduled to see Warren East (4-3) again this week, traveling to the Raiders home on Thursday. The team’s next match will be against Barren County (6-2) on September 5 at Patriot Gym.
