Patriot Football Releases Schedule

The Allen County-Scottsville Patriot football schedule has a new look this season. While the Patriots will face familiar District foes in Franklin-Simpson, Warren Central, and Warren Central as well as schedule regulars Glasgow, Greenwood, and Monroe County, this year slate will also include games against new opposition from Danville, Elizabethtown, and Mercer County along with new District opponent Russell County.

AC-S (6-5 last year) opens the season on Friday, August 23 with a match up against Elizabethtown in the Scottie Bowl at Glasgow. The Patriot-Panther match-up will be the first between the schools since a series of Class 2A playoff games in the early-mid 1990s. Elizabethtown (8-5) reached the Class 2A quarterfinals last year.

The following week will see the Patriots make the first of two trips to Danville. AC-S will face Mercer County in the Boyle County Bowl on Saturday, August 31. The Titans posted a 5-7 record in 2018, reaching the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. This year, Mercer County has dropped to Class 3A. The game will be the third matchup between the schools---the last one coming in 2013.

AC-S will play a third consecutive game on the road on Friday, September 6. The Patriots will travel to Bowling Green to face Greenwood, the 17th meeting in the series. The Class 5A Gators were 2-9 last season.

The Patriots’ home opener will come against Class 3A Glasgow on Friday, September 13. The Patriots and Scotties battle for the 42nd time in program history. AC-S will be looking to defeat Glasgow (11-2)---a state quarterfinalist last year. The game will also include the induction of the AC-S Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019 during halftime.

AC-S will open their Class 4A, Region 1, District 2 schedule on Friday, September 20 with a road game at Warren Central. The Dragons are looking to improve from last year’s 0-11 record. The team’s face off for the 20th time in series history.

The Patriots close the month with a home game on September 27 against Franklin-Simpson---the reigning 4A state champions. The Wildcats posted a 14-1 work sheet last season during their championship run. Franklin-Simpson has downed AC-S 29 times in 36 meetings.

The month of October starts with a return trip to Danville. On October 4, AC-S will face Danville---a Class 2A school that went 5-7 last fall. This will be the first meeting between the schools.

After an open date the week of fall break, AC-S will resume District play on the road at Warren East on October 18. The Raiders posted a 6-5 record last year. Warren East leads the series 24-20.

The Patriots close out the season with a pair of home game. On October 25, AC-S host Russell County. The Lakers (4-7) were in 4A last season but was in Region 2, bowing out in the first round of the post season. The return to Region 1 brings the Lakers back into the same district the team’s played in a decade ago. The last two matchups between the schools came in the fall of 2010. AC-S downed Russell County in the regular season District matchup and also posted a win over the Lakers three weeks later in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. Russell County leads the all-time series 8-7.

AC-S concludes the regular season on Friday, November 1 with a non-district home game against Monroe County. The Class 2A Falcons went 4-8 last season. Monroe County has a 17-12 series lead.
