Archers Hitting Targets

   The archery programs at the Allen County Intermediate Center (ACIC) and the James E. Bazzell Middle School participated last weekend in an archery meet in Logan County. The Bazzell Middle School team, consisting of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, posted a score of 2,958 to place 10th in the field of 17 teams. The ACIC team of fourth and fifth graders earned a mark of 2,552 to place ninth in the 11-team field. Overall, 21 archers recorded personal best scores.

   In the middle school division, the top male and female scores were posted by Ryan Wolfe (272 of a possible 300) and Gabby Corbett (243). Wolfe placed 14th in the 203 male archer field and his score was third among sixth grade boys in the tournament. Corbett was 81st in the girls’ field of 165 and was 23rd among the 57 sixth grade girls in the event. 

   Additional top scores by grade level for the middle school team were, sixth grade girls, Shyla Houchens (233) and Erin Penny (229). Sixth grade boys top scores included Cole Jackson (266) and Landon Witt (261). Among seventh grade shooters, top scores were Shelby Hughes (178) and Amber Smith (142) for the girls and a 239 for Daniel Brown for the boys. Among eighth grade boys, the top scores were Cole Meador (258), Calvin Smith (255), and Gabriel Oshefsky (236). 

   In the elementary division, the top ACIC score was achieved by Caden Meador with a personal best 246 and a 226 and personal best from JoyDale Williams. Meador finished 22 out of 130 archers in the elementary division and 18th among fifth grade archers. Williams was 28th in the girls’ field of 118 archers and was 22nd among fifth grade female archers.  

   Additional top scorers in fourth grade girls were Madison Gaddis (205), Harmony Richardson (199) and Madison Dickerson (190). Fourth grade boys top scorers from ACIC included Matthew Traughber (204), Dylan Overman (203), and Brian Hayes (200).

   High scorers from fifth grade girls also included Hayley Ditlevson (213) and Christina Howe (166). High scorers from fifth grade boys also included Owen Talbott (236) and Weston McCoy (232). 

   The next tournament for the archers from the Bazzell Middle School and the Intermediate Center will be the Region 4 National Archery in School’s Program tournament February 22-23 at Ephram White Park in Bowling Green. 

 

From eariler this year;

    Archery team students from the James E. Bazzell Middle School (JEBMS) and the Allen County Intermediate Center (ACIC) improved their scores in a pair of National Archery in School Program archery competitions the past two weekends.

   The archery programs at the Allen County Intermediate Center (ACIC) and the James E. Bazzell Middle School recently participated in a virtual archery tournament to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event---held at the Intermediate Center with scores posted on-line---presented the local sharp-shooters with the opportunity to polish their skills and to collect money for the Memphis research and treatment hospital. The archers raised $513.00 for St. Jude’s.  

   Archers from ACIC competed in the elementary division and posted a team score of 2,158 out of the possible score of 3,600. Leading scorers were Owen Talbott who shot a 250 out of a possible 300. Hayley Ditlevson posted the highest girls’ score with a 196. 

   Archers from sixth grade at ACIC and seventh and eighth grades at the Bazzell Middle School took part in the Middle School Division of the tournament. Overall, the archers notched a score of 2,816 out of the possible 3,600. Leading male archer was Ryan Wolfe with a score of 266 and leading female archer was Quinn Hartman with a score of 236.

   The top-three leading scores for ACIC from fourth grade girls included, Autumn Keith (125) Lilee Temple (109), and Harmony Richardson (99). For boys at the fourth-grade level, the top three scorers were Clayton Jones (168), Tucker Constant (155), and Dalton Greer (151).

   In fifth grade girls, the top three scorers were posted by Hayley Ditlevson (196), Maylee Westmoreland (184), and Lexis Loggins (161). For fifth grade boys, the top three included Owen Talbott (251), Jaxen Carver (202), and Jayden Stephens (189).

   The top three girls leading the way in sixth grade were Quinn Hartman (236), Gabby Corbett (220), and

Kaydence Davis (209). For sixth-grade boys, Ryan Wolfe (266), Cole Jackson (246), and Eli Stamper (235) led the way.

   The top scorers for the girls in the combined seventh and eight grades were Shelby Hughes (109) and

Amber Smith (62). The top three boys for seventh and eighth grade included Cole Meador (255), Caelan Fox (242), and Calvin Smith (237).

   The team’s participation in the event was dedicated to the memory of Skylar Graves---a fifth grade student at ACIC who recently passed away from cancer. Not only was funds raised for St. Jude’s but for the Graves family as well. 

   “Some of the archers just started handing me money to give to his family,” noted archery coach Tracy Butler. “Skylar had the opportunity, during the school year, to participate in archery in PE class and he enjoyed it. We raised $53 for his family.” 

  The elementary division included 54 archers from the Intermediate Center. The middle school division included 44 local archers.

 

   On January 26, Bazzell archers (including sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students) achieved their highest score of the year as Team One posted a 2971 in Middle School Division competition at Warren East. JEBMS placed fifth in the field of nine middle score teams. The second Bazzell team shot a 1991.  

   Sixth-grader Ryan Wolfe fired a round of 274 (out of a possible 300) to lead the way for the middle school archers. Sixth grader Gabby Corbett finished with a personal-best mark of 255 to finish as the top Bazzell female archer in competition.

   Additional top scores by grade level include eight-graders Cole Meador with a 256, Caelan Fox firing a 250 and Calvin Smith shooting a 247. Seventh grade top scores were a 171 for Shelby Hughes for the girls and a 248 for Wessly Butler and a 224 for Daniel Brown. In sixth grade, additional scorers included a 241 for Erin Penny and a 223 for Quinn Hartman. Additional boys’ sixth-grade scores were Landon Witt with a 271 and Hunter Threet with a 250. 

   In the Elementary Division of the event, two ACIC teams placed first and fourth. Team One shot a 2381 to take first in the field of four while Team Two notched a 1817. Leading elementary scorers for ACIC included Caden Meador (233) and Hayley Ditlevson (216).

   The top scores by fourth grade archers were, for the girls, Madison Gaddis (192), Taylor Uhles (161), and Lilee Temple (157). For boys, the top fourth grader shooters were Clayton Jones (221), Matthew Traughber (193), and Tucker Constant (190). The top archer scores by fifth grade girls included Maylee Westmoreland (192) and JoyDale Williams (174). Fifth grade boys scores also included Owen Talbott (208) and Jaxen Carver (207).

   A week earlier (January 19), the archers participated in an archery tournament at Chandlers Elementary in Logan County. Wolfe paced the middle school squad, shooting a 274 and helping JEBMS to a fifth place finish and an overall score of 2760. Wolfe also shot a perfect round, earning the honor of being the first archer from ACIC to receive a “50” pin. Corbett finished with a score of 227, the top female for the middle school. 

   Top scores for sixth grade archers also included Penny (216) and Allie Matlock (166) on the girls’ side and Andrew Woods (252) and Witt (246) for the boys. Seventh and eighth grade top scores were Hughes (127), Calvin Smith (262), Brown (251), and Butler (249). 

   Behind a team top score of 223 from Talbott for the boys and a 210 from Ditlevson, the elementary team posted a score of 2364 to finish in fifth place. The top scores by fourth grade girls were posted by Gaddis (202) and Temple (174), Harmony Richardson (161), and Uhles (161). Top fourth grade boys scores were Constant (196), Matthew Pardue (186), and Dylan Overman (182).

   The high scores for fifth grade ACIC archers also included Williams (198) and Lexis Loggins (185) for the girls and Carver (212), and Keagan Petty (204) for the boys.
