Three outstanding high school athletes and a
longtime supporter of the athletics program at Allen County-Scottsville High
School have been selected for induction into the AC-SH Athletic Hall of Fame.
Former Allen County basketball players Keith Gerald and Ken Rigdon, AC-S
football player Ricky McPeak, and the late Dr. John Hall will become the newest
Hall of Fame members on August 25.
Keith
Gerald is a 1954 graduate of Allen County High School. Gerald was a pivotal
member of a pair of regional basketball championship teams. As a junior, Gerald
helped lead Allen County to the program’s first regional crown. After helping
the Patriots to a 27-6 record in 1953, Gerald averaged 14.6 points per game as a
senior as Allen County posted a 29-3 record and returned to the state
tournament. Gerald was selected All-Region in in 1953 and 54, All-District in
1954, and was an All-State Honorable Mention player in 1954. Gerald attended David
Lipscomb briefly prior to going into the printing business. He retired after 42
years, the majority of the time with Gerald Printing Service in Scottsville.
Ken
Rigdon graduated from Allen County in 1965. Rigdon was part of a program
that won three consecutive Region 5 titles (1962, 1963, and 1964). As a
sophomore starter in 1963, Rigdon scored 335 points and followed up with a 486-point
junior season in 1964. Rigdon helped the 1964 team reach the semifinals of the
state tournament---the best-ever finish by a boys basketball team from Allen
County. Rigdon scored 59 points in three state tournament games, including a
pair of 21-point efforts in the first and second rounds. As a senior, Rigdon
averaged 20.2 points per game, leading Allen County to a 24-5 record. Over the
final three years of high school, Rigdon scored 1,386 points. His high school
recognitions included All-District and All-Region in 1964, First Team
All-Southern Kentucky, First Team All-Area, and Third Team All-State in 1965. Rigdon
attended Austin Peay State University for a short time before entering the work
force. Following a 20-year career with the Kentucky State Police, Rigdon served
in law enforcement and government in Shepherdsville. After serving as Judge
Executive in Bullitt County, Rigdon retired in 2007.
Ricky McPeak
graduated from AC-S in 1995, after accumulating 3,252 yards during an
outstanding four-year career. The speedy tailback rushed for 507 yards on 96
carries as a sophomore, an average of 5.3 yards per carry. As a junior, McPeak
averaged 4.9 yards per carry and rushed for over 900 yards. In his senior
campaign, McPeak recorded 1,719 yards, 28 touchdowns, averaged 6.9 yards per
carry, and 143.3 yards per game. In addition, McPeak caught 10 passes for 105
yards and two touchdowns, recorded over 200 yards in return yards, and was in
on 33 tackles defensively. His outstanding season helped the Patriots post a
9-3 record, reach the second round of the Class 2A playoffs, and finish the
year ranked ninth in the state in Class 2A. McPeak was part of a program that
went 17-6 in his final two seasons. McPeak’s career rushing yardage ranks third
all-time.
John
Hall moved to Allen County in the early 1960s to begin his medical career
and raise five children. As his kids became involved in the athletic programs
at Allen County-Scottsville High School, Hall and his wife, Dell, became
constant faces at AC-SH academic and athletic events. Dr. Hall offered his
medical services to the sports programs, providing physicals each year and nearby
should a medical need arise. After his children graduated high school and
started their own careers, Dr. Hall continued to support AC-S athletics---until
the days when grandchildren began to play for the Patriots and Lady Patriots.
In 2010, Dr. Hall’s journey with AC-S athletics led to the state championship 4-A
football game. That December night, Dr. Hall watched a grandson from AC-S play against
a grandson from Boyle County. In 2011, Dr. Hall watched his son Michael, a
three-sport athlete for AC-S and a standout college football player at Centre
College, inducted into the 2011 Hall of Fame. Dr. Hall passed away in 2015 at
the age of 80.
The 2017 Hall of Fame Induction activities
will be held on Friday, August 25, at Patriot Stadium. A reception meet-and-greet
will be held for the inductees at 6 p.m. on the north end of the football
field. At halftime of the AC-S/Barren County game, the inductees will be
introduced in official introduction ceremonies.
