Owen Stamper Qualifies for State Golf Tournament

Allen County-Scottsville sophomore Owen Stamper carded a round of 76 Monday in play in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Region 3 golf tournament at the Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green. Stamper’s score was one of the top three individual scores posted by individuals not on the first or second place teams. As a result, Stamper has qualified for the Leachman Buick GMC Cadillac/KHSAA state tournament.

   South Warren golfer C.M. Mixon edged Franklin-Simpson’s Chase Wilson in a playoff for individual honors. Both shot rounds of 70 on the 60-year course. Clay Spears from Franklin-Simpson posted a round of 71 with teammate Brandon Fykes joining Bowling Green’s Collier Curd with rounds of 74. Alex Gilbert from Franklin-Simpson notched a 75. Stamper and Glasgow’s Peyton Mills posted 76’s.

   Franklin-Simpson won the team title with a score of 290. Bowling Green placed second with a 310. AC-S finished in seventh place as a team with a score of 334.

   In individual play, Patriot junior Brett Rippy posted a round of 85 with senior Dawson Birge shooting an 86. Junior Tate Stinson fired an 87 while Bryson Bonds carded a 92.

 

The state golf tournament will be played October 3 and 4 at the Bowling Green Country Club. Stamper will tee off on the 10th hole at 11:48 on Tuesday, October 3.
