South Central Bank-Halton Classic Announces Match-Ups

   The annual South Central Bank-Halton Classic (SCBHC) will feature eight girls teams and six boys teams competing December 28-30 at Allen County-Scottsville High School in Scottsville.

   The eight-team girls tournament begins on Thursday, December 28 at 10 a.m. as Upperman High School from Baxter Tennessee faces Bowling Green. Upperman (34-4 last year) captured the Tennessee Class 2A state championship. The Lady Bees were state runner-up in 2016 and have compiled a 69-7 record over the past two seasons. Bowling Green (21-9) reached the Region 4 quarterfinals last season, a year after winning the 2016 Region 4 title.

   The second game of the first day at 11:45 will have Simon Kenton pitted against Madisonville-North Hopkins. Simon Kenton (28-7) are the defending Region 8 champions and were a quarterfinalist at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA State Tournament. Madisonville-North Hopkins (18-13) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region 2 tournament. The Lady Maroons are returning to the SCBHC after going 1-2 in the tournament in 2016.

  Lower bracket action on the first day starts at 5 p.m. and will have Apollo High School from Owensboro playing Warren East. Apollo (25-8) was the Third Region runner-up in 2017. Warren East (4-24) is looking to rebuild the tradition at the Bowling Green school.

   The final game of the opening round will see Allen County-Scottsville (14-16) facing Lecanto Florida with a 6:45 tip time. The Lady Patriots---the 2015 state runner-up----look to rebound from their first losing season since 2011. Lecanto---the first Florida school to play in the SCBHC---struggled to a 1-24 record last year, a year after posting a 26-4 record and reaching the Class 5A state tournament semifinals.

   The girls portion of the SCBHC will see consolation bracket games at 10 and 11:45 a.m. and semifinal games at 1:30 and 6:45 on Friday, December 29. Seventh, fifth, and third place games will be played at 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, December 30. The girls championship is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 30.

   The boys side of the SCBHC will see six teams engaged in three-days of head-to-head matchups. Thursday’s games will have Greenwood (19-14) against Russellville (22-12) at 1:30. The Gators were a Region 4 participant while the Panthers reached the Region finals before bowing to Bowling Green. Warren East (13-16) will face Lecanto Florida (3-22) at 3:15 p.m. with AC-S (10-19) and Todd County Central (9-17) matched up in the 8:30 p.m. nightcap.

   Friday boys games feature Todd County pitted against Warren East at 3:15, Lecanto and Greenwood playing at 5 and Russellville and AC-S facing off at 8:30. Saturday’s games see Greenwood and Todd meeting at 1:30, AC-S and Lecanto meeting at 5 and Warren East and Russellville concluding the SCBHC in the 8:30 p.m. game.

   The Lady Patriots went 2-1 in the tournament last year. AC-S defeated Ballard Memorial, dropped a semifinal game to Casey County, and downed Madison Southern to capture third place. The Patriots were 1-2 in the 2016 SCBHC, defeating Elizabethtown and suffering losses to Rockcastle County and Webster County.

   This will be the ninth year for the girls SCBHC and the seventh year for a boys’ counterpart. The Lady Patriots have an overall record of 19-7 in the event while the Patriots are 9-10.
