Winter Weather Notification Update

   Allen County School Superintendent Randall Jackson has updated the Allen County School District’s winter weather notification policy.

   The updated policy reflects an option that the school district has not used in several years---the one-hour or two-hour delay in the start of the school day. This option would mean that the opening of school would be delayed to allow conditions to improve or officials to further monitor winter weather conditions.

   If the one or two hour delay option is used, a one call will be sent out by or before 5:30 a.m. to inform parents and district employees of the delay. The Nashville televisions stations (WTVF, WSMV, WKRN, and WZTV) as well as WBKO and WVLE-WLCK will also be notified at or before 5:30.

   When a decision to close school is made, the same notifications procedures will be used. Jackson reminds parents that it’s important to listen closely to the message from the school district.

“Be sure to listen to the one call message,” Jackson said in a letter to parents sent home with students. “Don’t assume school is automatically canceled. We may just be on a delay.”

  In the event of an early dismissal, a one call message will be sent out once the decision to dismiss is made and will include the time at which schools will be dismissing. WBKO and WVLE will also be notified.

   “Please listen to all one calls as the messages may change depending on the situation,” Jackson emphasized in the letter. “We thank you for your patience with us during these decisions and remember we make decisions based on the safety of all of our students and staff.”

   Any parent who does not receive one call from the school district can call the Allen County School District at 270-618-3181 to be added to the one call list.
