Veterans Day Programs Scheduled

Each school in the Allen County School District will have special assembly programs to honor veterans for Veterans Day.

The Allen County-Scottsville High School’s Veterans Day Program---under the direction of the school’s JROTC program---will be held on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, in the high school gymnasium. The program will begin at 9:15 a.m. with those attending asked to arrive by 9 that morning.

Attendees will see a JROTC cadet-led program designed to “honor those military personnel who have served the nation.” The guest speaker for the program will be Col. (CH) John Mark Toby, Command Chaplin with the Tennessee National Guard and Director of Missions for the Warren Association of Baptists. The program will also include musical selections from the AC-SH band and choir. After the program, a reception will be held in the high school library for all veterans who attend the program.

The Veterans Program at the Bazzell Middle School will beat 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 10. The middle school program will be led by seventh and eighth grade student council and Jr. Beta officers. The student-leaders will speak about the history of Veterans Day, the importance of honoring veterans, and give brief information about each branch of the Armed Forces. JROTC cadets will present the American flag, the chorus will perform and video clips will be included in the program. Veterans and/or families of veterans are welcome to attend the program.

The Veterans Day program at the Allen County Primary Center will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 10. Tentative plans call for the keynote address to be given by retired Chief Warrant Officer Steve Borden, a helicopter pilot who served in Vietnam. The program will feature a flag folding ceremony, a history of Veterans Day, and a visual presentation of the book, America's White Table, as read by retired Navy veteran and ACPC art teacher, Valynn Spearman. Tentative plans also call for a meet-and-greet for veterans prior to the program.

The Allen County Intermediate Center will recognize Veterans Day with their assembly program scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11. Special guest speaker will be Staff Sgt. Michael McGuire. The program will include special music and activities designed to highlight the day when America honors those who have served.
