Welcome Letter

August 3, 2011

Dear Family,

Welcome to 1st grade!  Thank you for sharing your child with me this year.  The start of a new school year is an exciting time for all of us.  I look forward to learning more about each child as we start this new year together.

To tell you more about myself, I have taught here at ACPC for 7 years.  I graduated from WKU in 2004 and completed a Master’s in Reading and Literacy in June of 2008. This fall, I will begin work on a Rank I with a Gifted and Talented endorsement.  I teach because I love children and can’t think of better way to spend each day than with wonderful first graders.  I have high expectations for all students and will do all I can to help them reach the highest level of achievement.

I tend to keep students busy so there is little time for misbehavior.  If we find that a problem arises, I assure you it will be handled with respect.  My philosophy is to treat your child the way I would want my own children treated.  The students will help plan our classroom rules and consequences and we will share them with you shortly.

I find that communication is the key to success in our classroom.  Your child’s ACPC folder will go home daily.  Check the pockets for the papers to “return” and the ones to “keep.”  We also use a behavior chart that will be inside the ACPC folder.  Please initial the behavior chart daily.  Homework information will be sent within the next few weeks.

My door is always open.  If you have something to share, please don’t hesitate to send a note with your child or email me.  We love to have parents help in the classroom!  I check my email nightly and would be glad to communicate in this manner.  I also have conference times during the day, if you would like to speak with me in person.  You may call the school office to arrange that.  Phone calls received during the school day will be returned either during my planning time or after school.

I look forward to a wonderful year with your child!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sherry Roberson
