The Allen County Intermediate Center will be
hosting Camp Invention, a five-day summer camp experience for children currently
in kindergarten through sixth grades. The highly-acclaimed program will be
making its debut in the Allen County School District after several years of
successful camps in school districts across the nation as well as surrounding
areas.
Camp Invention is a
program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, a non-profit organization
dedicated to advancing the future of innovation and STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math). The program’s activities are led by experienced, local
educators, and inspired by the world changing inventors that have been inducted
into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
The camp will be held
at the Intermediate Center from June 4 through June 8. Activities will start at
8 a.m. each day and end at 2:30.
The day will include a
variety of hands-on activities that “encourage creative problem-solving,
teamwork, entrepreneurship, and curiosity.” Examples of the activities include
children exploring the technology behind self-driving cars, designing
futuristic homes with smart furniture, and smart energy, and building and
personalizing a robotic dog---an activity that will help students compare the
inner mechanics to the biology of living animals. Every child will also take
home two custom robots.
The cost of the camp is
$225 for each child. For parents registering their child by March 23, a $25
discount will be applied. To register or for more information, go online at www.campinvention.org or call
800-968-4322. Please use the promo code IDEAS25. Parents may also contact local
camp director Barbara McClard at [email protected]
