Volleyball Starts Year 5-5
Lady Patriot volleyball

The Patriot volleyball team were busy this past week. Allen County-Scottsville played eight matches in eight days included five matches over the weekend at the Summer Slam hosted by Apllo High School in Owensboro.

AC-S opened the week with a 2-0 lost to Warren East (8-2) on August 14 at Patriot Gym. Both sets were nip-and-tuck battles that required extra games to be played. East won both sets 27-25 to record the match win.

Thursday, the Lady Patriots had little trouble in getting by Edmonson County, 2-0. Strong team play helped the Lady Patriots take the first set 25-14 and follow with a 25-13 second set victory. The match-up with the Lady Cats would be repeated two days later as AC-S also won 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) during the bracket play portion of the Owensboro tournament.

Friday, AC-S opened play in pool play of the event---splitting games against Henderson County (3-4) and Owensboro (2-7). In the opener, Henderson County---the reigning Region 2 champions---took the first set 25-22. In the second, the Lady Colonels win 25-15. AC-S regrouped to defeat Owensboro 2-0 (25-14, 25-18) in the nightcap.

In the Silver Bracket of the tournament on Saturday, AC-S lost a three-set decision to Green County (6-2). In the opening set, the Lady Dragons won 25-19. AC-S answered with a 25-18 second set victory only to fall 15-9 in the third set. After the win over Edmonson County (2-7), AC-S lost a 2-1 decision to 2-7 Whitesville Trinty (26-24, 22-25, 15-5).

Monday, the Lady Patriots evened their overall record at 5-5 with a 2-0 win against Warren Central at Patriot Gym.

After falling behind 1-0, AC-S scored six unanswered points to open a 6-1 lead in the first set. After a Central point, kills from Kaylee Baldwin and Macy Ward enabled the hosts to open an 11-2 lead. The AC-S lead increased to eight 13-5, before the Lady Patriots used a 7-0 run to take command. The first set final was 25-8.

The story was much the same in the second. AC-S opened a 12-1 lead before the Lady Dragons gradually pulled to within six, 13-7. However, a 6-0 run shut the door on any hopes of a Central (1-4) rally, helping AC-S to close out the set. The 25-13 win gave AC-S the match win.

The Lady Patriots (5-5) will travel to Barren County Thursday, host Metcalfe County Monday, and journey to Glasgow next Tuesday.
