Eight students representing the SkillsUSA chapter from Allen County-Scottsville High School and the Allen County Career and Technical Center earned first, second, or third place awards at the SkillsUSA Region 5 Leadership Conference and Skills Competition on Friday, February 24 at the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College in Bowling Green.
First place winners included Maggie Adams in Customer Service, Logan Cockrill in Extemporaneous Writing, Sabrina Martin in Architectural Board Drafting and SkillsUSA Spelling, and Erin Sipes in Technical Board Drafting.
Second place winners were Maggie Adams in Architectural Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD), Jacob Herald in Industrial Motor Controls, Nathan Hogue in Architectural Board Drafting, Erin Sipes in Customer Service and Madison Spradlin in Job Interview.
Third place award winners were Logan Cockrill in Technical CAD and Nathan Hogue in Job Interview.
Additional SkillsUSA students in competition last week at regional were Nate Anderson (Auto Service Technology 1), Dyllan Haley (Welding Fabrication Team), Travis Hayes (Welding Fabrication Team), Joshua Herald (Industrial Motor Controls), Logan Moore (Automotive Service Technology), Max Nichols (Auto Service Technology 1), Seth Parkhurst (Welding Fabrication Team), Timothy Saylors (Technical CAD), Madison Spradlin (Architectural CAD), and Daniel Stephens (Auto Service Technology).
The students were accompanied by SkillsUSA advisors Dolorse Rice and Todd Stamps, as well as Allen County Career and Technical Center Principal Joseph Cosby. ACCTC instructors Paul Spears and Matthew Keith are other advisors that helped prepare the students for their contests.
The winners have qualified to advance to the state competition April 19-22 to be held in Louisville.
