Baseball Splits Games During Week

The Allen County-Scottsville Patriots split games this week on the diamond. Tuesday, the Patriots recorded an 8-2 district win over Monroe County. Wednesday, AC-S dropped a 5-1 decision to Bowling Green.

Junior Sheldon Peay used a dominating pitching performance to help the Patriots to Tuesday’s win. Peay threw a complete game, striking out 16 of the 27 Falcons batters he faced. Peay allowed two runs on five hits and walked one batter. Of the 116 pitches Peay threw, 79 were strikes and 16 times, Peay opened an at-bat with a strike.

Offensively, the afternoon belonged to Aaron Howell. The sophomore went four-for-four at the plate. Freshman Owen Stamper enjoyed a two-for-four afternoon. Drew Meador, Cayden Ross, Marcus Carter, Tristen Brooks, Warren Bray, Zach Sowers, and Peay each reached base with a hit. AC-S finished with 13 hits.

AC-S sprinted to a 2-0 lead on Marcus Carter’s home run in the top of the first. The Falcons pushed two runs across the plate in the home-half of the second before Ross scored on a fielder’s choice with Stamper scoring on an RBI single from Brooks. Howell’s RBI double in the top of the fifth and a double from pinch-hitter Zack Sowers lifted the Patriots to a 6-2 lead. The Patriots loaded the bases in the seventh before a Monroe County (3-2) error allowed the final AC-S runs to cross the plate.

Thursday, AC-S struggled to find offense against Bowling Green. Purple pitcher Tyler Stahl held the Patriots to one hit in his four innings of action---a Bray single to start the home-half of the third. Luke Brown gave up two hits in three innings of relief, a Tristan Brooks homer and a double off the bat of Peay in the sixth.

Bowling Green (2-3) jumped ahead 2-0 after the first inning. The Purples added solo runs in the third and fourth innings to open a 4-0 lead. AC-S’s lone run would come on Brooks’ homer in the bottom of the fifth. The final Bowling Green run came in the seventh off Patriot starting pitcher Zach Ausbrooks.

Ausbrooks worked the entire game. The sophomore surrounded 10 hits and struck out one. Ausbrooks threw 74 pitches to the 31 batters he faced during the game.

AC-S (2-5) returns to the field Monday hosting Logan County (6-0). Tuesday, the Patriots welcome district-rival Glasgow (3-1) to Patriot Field.
