Sharp Shooters Compete in Open Championships in Nashville

   The Allen County Intermediate Center (ACIC) archers posted a very solid showing at the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP®) Open Championships and IBO 3-D Championships Thursday and Friday at the Music City Center in Nashville.

   Rising fifth grader Madison Gaddis paced the Sharp Shooters in both the Open and 3-D events. In Open preliminary flight competition on Thursday, Gaddis shot a 270 to lead the ACIC team. Her score was third overall in the 91 elementary archer field and first among the 36 fourth graders. Gaddis’ efforts in the preliminaries qualified her to move into Friday’s Open Championship round where she posted a score of 272, placing 40th in the field of 369 archers shooting in the final round. Of the 130 archers from fourth grade shooting on Friday, Gaddis’ score was seventh. In the 3-D flight competition, Gaddis posted a score of 235 on Thursday to lead the ACIC team. 

   Overall, ACIC’s Open team posted a team score of 2755 on Thursday. In addition to Gaddis, the top 10 archers were Hayley Ditlevson (243), Lexis Loggins (240), Keagan Petty (230), Taylor Uhles (229), Weston McCoy (228), Owen Talbott (227), Madison Dickerson (224), James Fisher (223), and JoyDale Williams (216). Additional ACIC archers participating were Carter Douglas, Jaxen Carver, Aiden Blankenship, Wyatt Smith, Hunter Clayton, Clayton Jones, Brian Hayes, Brayden Holland, Dylan Overman, Harmony Richardson, Caden Rogers, Logan Roof, Autumn Keith, and Dusty Overman.

   In the 3-D competition---the event in which the archers shoot at replicas of different wildlife---the ACIC team finished with a score of 1296. Among the top 10 were Gaddis, Madison Dickerson (225), Taylor Uhles (221), Carter Douglas (216), Wyatt Smith (204), Keagan Petty (195), Brayden Holland (193), Hayley Ditlevson (188), Hunter Clayton (188), and Dylan Overman (187). Additional competitors were Jaxen Carver, JoyDale Williams, James Fisher, Weston McCoy, Logan Roof, Lexis Loggins, Aiden Blankenship, Autumn Keith, Brian Hayes, Clayton Jones, Caden Rogers, Dusty Overman, and Harmony Richardson.

   The event concluded the 2018-19 archery season for the ACIC squad. Students at the school will learn about the afterschool archery program---a program in which all students at the school can participate---early in the upcoming school year. The new archery competition season is expected to start in late October or November.
