Patriot Band Semifinals Bound

The Allen County-Scottsville Patriot Band placed fourth in a field of 12 bands Saturday at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Marching Band Championships Class 3A West Region Quarterfinals. The fourth-place advances the Patriots to the KMEA Class 3A semifinals next Saturday at Nelson County High School in Bardstown.

AC-S earned a score of 78.5 in Saturday’s competition. Taylor County scored an 85.85 to take top honors. Russell County placed second with a score of 83.05 with John Hardin third with an 80.7 mark.

In addition, Wayne County (76.75), Calloway County (75.35), Paducah Tilghman (68.65), and Franklin-Simpson (67.8) also qualified for the semifinals. The eight West Region qualifying schools will join the eight qualifying schools from the East Region in the semifinals next week.

Following the competition, the qualifying band directors drew for even number performance slots for next Saturday’s semifinals. AC-S will perform 14th among the 16 bands participating next week---the latest ever performance slot for a Patriot band in semifinal competition. AC-S is looking to improve upon last year’s eighth place overall finish in Class 3A.

The semifinals begin at 10 a.m. (CDT) next Saturday when Marion County takes the field. Paducah Tilghman, Rowen County, Franklin-Simpson, Nelson County, Calloway County, Corbin, and Wayne County will follow. The second group of eight begins their performances at 12:15 (CDT) and includes Bourbon County, John Hardin, Boyle County, Taylor County, and Mercer County. AC-S will perform at 1:30 (CDT) followed by Harrison County and Russell County. Finalists will be announced following the final performance.

The top four bands following the competition Saturday advance to the State Marching Band Championships next Saturday evening at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium in Louisville. Admission to the semifinals Saturday will be $12.
