Lady Pats Volleyball in District Championship

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots had little trouble in defeating the Barren County Trojanettes Monday in the opening round of the District 15 volleyball tournament at Glasgow High School. AC-S’s 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-9) win moved the Lady Patriots into Tuesday’s finals against Monroe County---a 3-0 winner over Glasgow in Monday’s second semifinal match.

The Lady Patriots cruised to the first set win on the strength of solid serving and defense. Service aces from Olivia Brown, Macy Ward, and Adrianna Webb helped AC-S turn a 4-3 early contest into a 16-6 lead. Defensively, AC-S were “on their toes” to hold the Trojanettes at bay. A kill by Chloe Cook and an ace by Baylea Cook enabled AC-S to close the set with a 25-11 win.

The story was much the same in the second set. Barren County pulled within a point, 4-3, early before AC-S answered with a 6-1 run, capped off by an ace off the serve of Meg Foster. After a Trojanette point, a 9-0 AC-S run gave the Lady Patriots complete control. Kills from Nichole Carver, Webb, and Kalee Baldwin lifted the Lady Patriots to the 25-6 set win.

Barren County edged ahead---for the second time in the match----early in the final set. Trailing 5-4, AC-S countered with a 7-1 scoring run. The Trojanettes clawed to within three, 11-8, before AC-S regained control. A Foster set led to a Baldwin kill, Brown aced a serve, and Ward followed with a strong kill. Brown added another ace and Webb finished a volley with a kill. Ward’s ace and strong serving enabled AC-S to close out the set on a 9-0 run to win 25-9.

AC-S (15-6) and Monroe County (14-11) meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the District finals. This will be the fifth year that the schools have played for a district championship with the Lady Patriots still seeking their first District 15 title. AC-S has defeated Monroe County twice this season.

Both teams will advance to next week’s Region 4 tournament to be played at Warren East High School. Pairings will be announced Saturday. Play is expected to begin with a double header on Monday.
