ACS Falls to Edmonson County on Senior Night

   The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot volleyball squad dropped a 2-1 match (26-24, 21-25, 21-15) to the Edmonson County Lady Wildcats Thursday night on Senior Night at Patriot Gym.

   Prior to the regular season finale, seniors Baylea Cook, Nichole Carver, and Adrianna Webb were recognized for four years of dedication to the AC-S volleyball program. Cook is the daughter of Melinda and Greg Cook. Carver is the daughter of Joann Bensley and Steve Carver. Webb is the daughter of Pam Webb.

   The opening set featured 11 ties in a highly competitive competition. Edmonson County opened a 9-6 lead before a kill from Chloe cook and an ace by Webb helped the Lady Patriots pull even at 9. The game seesawed before aces off the serves of Macy Webb and a Meg Foster winner lifted AC-S to a 15-12 lead. The hosts built an 18-12 lead before the Lady Cats rallied.

   An 8-2 run by Edmonson County knotted the match at 20. The teams exchanged points before the Lady Patriots avoided set point and pulled even at 24. A kill by Webb lifted her team to a 25-24 lead. Moments later, a player in-the-net call against Edmonson County secured the 26-24 set win for AC-S.

   The second set was much the same in terms of competitiveness. Eight ties in the first 16 points were followed by AC-S grabbing a 10-8 lead following a winner by foster and an ace by Ward. The Lady Wildcats used a strong series of smack downs to open a 19-16 lead. AC-S battled back with a textbook set from Baylea Cook and a kill by Kalee Baldwin helped the Lady Patriots draw even at 20. The teams exchanged points before Edmonson County closed on a 4-0 run to even the match.

   A 3-0 run by the Lady Wildcats to start the third propelled the visitors to a lead they would hold for the first 23 points of the set. A pair of kills by Chloe Cook kept AC-S even at 12 and 13. The Lady Wildcats slowly edged ahead, finally grabbing a 21-17 lead and improving the lead to 23-19. A Ward winner and a kill from Chloe Cook were not enough as Edmonson County closed out the set 25-21 to grab the match and post a second victory over AC-S this season.

   AC-S closes the regular season with 14 wins---the seventh time in the past 15 seasons that AC-S has recorded 14 or more wins in a season.

   The District 15 tournament starts Monday, October 16 at Glasgow High School. One-seed AC-S (14-6) will play four-seed Barren County (7-26) in the 5:30 opening match. Two-seed Monroe County (13-11) will battle three-seed Glasgow (12-14) in the nightcap. The winners will advance to the tournament championship scheduled for Tuesday, October 17 at 6 at Glasgow. District tournament matches will be the best three out of five sets.

   Both district winner and runner-up will advance to the Region 4 tournament to be played at Warren East High School starting Monday, October 23.

   AC-S---the District 15 tournament runner-up for the past five years---will be seeking their first District championship. Overall, the Lady Patriot program has been runner-up in the district 10 times since beginning the sport in 2001.
