Twelve Allen County-Scottsville High School freshmen have been selected for the inaugural group of students to participate in the Allen County-Scottsville High School Pridemasters Leadership Program.
Pridemasters in the Class of 2019 include Gracie England, Mattie England, Harris Gregory, Meghan Higgins, Jackson Hite, Josten Lightfoot, Natalie Meredith, Zaide-Jade Pinson, Tristan Skipworth, Megan Stinson, Madison Walker, and Jaylee Woods.
The student’s selection came after a two-month application, interview, and review process. In early February, all AC-S freshmen were introduced to the Pridemaster Leadership Program. Endorsed by the Allen County Board of Education and Allen County-Scottsville High School, the program is a three-year process in which the Pridemasters will learn multiple aspects of leadership, engage in community and civic involvement, and serve as ambassadors for the high school, school district, and the community.
Freshman who chose to apply were required to complete an application packet which included a written essay and reference letters. The final component involved in the selection process was a 10-15 minute interview by a four-member panel representing school, community, and business leaders. The panel also served as a review board for the applications. Earlier this month, the Pridemaster Program’s leadership committee reviews recommendations and made the final selections.
“We had a great group of 12 applicants for the first year of Pridemasters,” explained Allen County Community Education Director Don Meador “Our selection panel were impressed by each applicant’s qualifications and felt as if each student possessed leadership qualities which will be very beneficial to the Pridemaster Program.”
The Pridemasters will start the program with a retreat in August. Additional year-one activities will include multiple leadership training sessions and community project identification. Pridemasters will also begin to represent the school and community at various events by the end of the 2016-17 school year.
