Students Participate in Area 5 Special Olympics

   The annual Area 5 Special Olympics regional competition was held Saturday at Bowling Green High School. The Allen County delegation included 32 athletes, 70 buddies and 30 coaches and volunteers.

   The winners from Allen County Primary Center were; Kloey Burchett, first place 25 meter Assisted Walk and fourth place, Softball Throw; Celicia Denison, first place 50m Dash and third place Softball Throw; Josh Hester, second place Distance Ball Roll (Wheelchair) and third Place Grasp and Lift; Nicholas Huff, third place 50m Dash and fourth place Softball Throw; Summer Rippy, second place Grasp and Lift and second place Tennis Ball Throw.

   The winners from the Allen County Intermediate Center were Makayla Blankenship, first place 50m and first place Softball Throw; Shawn Brown, first place Softball Throw and first place 50m Walk; Lucy Celsor, second place 25mr Assisted Walk and first place Tennis Ball Throw; Brittany Gunter, first place 100m Dash and first place Softball Throw; Nick Mandrell, second place 50m Dash and second place Softball Throw; Destiny Roach, second place Softball Throw and third place 50m Dash; Ceira Smalling, first place Standing Long Jump and fourth place 50m Dash; Jordyn Snodgrass, first place Grasp and Lift and third place Distance Ball Roll (Wheelchair); Jacob Waters, second place 50m Dash and second place Softball Throw; and Colton Woods, second place 100m Dash and second place Softball Throw.

   The winners from the James E. Bazzell Middle School include Austin Green, second place Softball Throw and second place 50m Dash; Holly Grizzle, second place 50m Dash and second place Softball Throw; Willie Guess, first place 50m Dash and first place Softball Throw; Jacob Strode, second place Standing Long Jump and third place 50 Meter Dash; Dawson Wolfe, first place Softball Throw and fifth place 100m Dash; and Xavier Wooten, first place 50m Dash and second place Softball Throw.

   The winners from Allen County-Scottsville High School were Sophia Alford, first place Softball Throw and fifth place 50m Dash, Matthew Arnold, first place 50m Walk and first place Softball Throw; J.J. Frost, second place 50m Meter Dash and competed in Softball Throw; Mark Anthony Gonzalez, second place 50m Walk and third place Softball Throw; Wesley Jones, first place 100m Dash and second place Standing Long Jump; Zayne Logsdon, fourth place Softball Throw and fifth place 50m Dash; Misty McClusky, first place 50m Dash and third place Softball Throw; J.T. Saylors, second place Softball Throw and fourth place 50m Dash; Wyatt Thomason, first place 50m Dash and first place Standing Long Jump, and Seth Tollefson, fifth place in 50m Dash and fifth place in Softball Throw.

   Allen County-Scottsville High School senior Zayne Logsdon was named 2016 Athlete of the Year from among the 11 counties participating in this year’s games. Dee Ana Witcher Ledoux was honored with the 2016 Clark R Verner Volunteer of the Year Award.
