Science Olympiad Students Score Strong in State Event

scq

The Science Olympiad teams representing the James E. Bazzell Middle School placed fourth and sixth overall in the recent state competition. This year, 18 middle school students participated in the state competition held virtually due to the continued COVID pandemic.

“Combined we had one gold medal win, one silver medal win, and five bronze medal wins,” explained coach Vanous Brown. “Our JEBMS red team placed fourth overall and the blue team was sixth. Through virtual, the participation from across the state made it very competitive as always. The fourth-place finish was only surpassed by one other B division school who, like us had multiple teams. That means our Science Olympiad B division program was the second-best school in competition. So proud of each who chose to finish what they started over a year ago and represent themselves, our school, and our community with pride.”

Red Team individual results included a gold medal for Kash Taylor and Landon Witt in Mission Possible. Bronze medal winners included Kennedy Carter and Allison Ford in Anatomy, Isabella Roberts and Ethan Stinson in Dynamic Planet, and Ruby Limm and Shalynn Garland in Experimental Design.

Additional Red Team winners were fourth place recognition for Elli Gross and Miah Coleman in Crime Busters and Fossils and Kash Taylor and Landon Witt in Machines. Fifth place winners included Taylor and Witt in Circuit Lab and Density Lab, Kaya Garland and Shalynn Garland in Disease Detective, Elli Gross and Shalynn Garland in Heredity, Ruby Limm and Shalynn Garland in Reach for the Stars and Isabella Roberts in Road Scholar. Kaya Garland and Miah Coleman and were sixth in Food Science and Ruby Lim and Kaya Garland were sixth in Ornithology.

The Bazzell Blue Team winners included a second-place silver medal for Emma Gammons and Emma Brown in Mousetrap Vehicle, bronze medals for Quinn Hartman in Disease Detective and Ornithology, and fourth place awards for Emerson Waddell in Density Lab and Mission Possible, Ryan Wolfe in Dynamic Planet, Houston Porter in Meteorology and Food Science, and Emma Gammons and Emma Brown in Heredity.
