Biggerstaff Selected as Chief Academic Officer

Mrs. Melissa Biggerstaff has been selected as the Chief Academic Officer for Allen County Schools.

rs. Biggerstaff has been in education for more than 23 years. Mrs. Biggerstaff has been serving as the Associate Executive Director of the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) for the last 10 years. During her work at GRREC she has been responsible for collaborating with 47 school districts to improve student outcomes; writing, implementing and managing multiple federal, state, and private grants; developing strategic partnerships with federal and state agencies and organizations to advance education in the region; training and implementing best practices in school improvement, district support services, leadership development, and professional development; as well as customizing, organizing, and leading professional learning for teachers and leaders throughout the region. Prior to her work at GRREC she served as School Culture Facilitator and Trainer with the School Culture Research Center, Lead Solution Architect for School Improvement with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and as a Principal, Instructional Specialist, and Teacher with the Monroe County Board of Education. Mrs. Biggerstaff has also served as a Leadership and School Improvement Consultant and Coach with International Center for Leadership in Education/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

“Mrs. Biggerstaff is an exceptional educational leader and has done tremendous work supporting districts throughout our region,” said Superintendent, Travis Hamby. “She has demonstrated knowledge of teaching and learning and a breadth of educational experience that will benefit the students and staff of Allen County Schools. We are fortunate and excited to have her join the Allen County district.”

“It is a tremendous honor to be chosen as Chief Academic Officer for Allen County Schools. The district has done a phenomenal amount of work to improve student learning, and I am thrilled to join their team of outstanding teachers and leaders. I look forward to being back in a district doing the most noble work of all. I am excited to work every single day on behalf of the students and staff in Allen County Schools,” said Biggerstaff.

Mrs. Biggerstaff is married to David and they have two children, Grant and Ava.

 

Mrs. Biggerstaff will begin her duties as Chief Academic Officer with Allen County Schools on July 13, 2020. Mrs. Biggerstaff will be replacing Mr. Ricky Fisher who is retiring September 1.
