Allen County-Scottsville senior Cora Towe has been selected as the 2022 Allen County Distinguished Young Woman (DYW). The announcement of the 2022 winners was made Sunday in a family-only awards ceremony following a second year that the DYW scholarship program has been held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic. Towe and classmates Alexa Anderson and Megan Pearson participated in the prestigious program. The candidates competed virtually due to COVID concerns with all judging and the interview phase of the program done online.

Towe’s overall selection carried with it a $1,000 cash scholarship. She also received the Todd Gibbs Interview Award ($500 cash scholarship). After preliminary events, Towe received the Scholastic Award ($300 cash scholarship), the Fitness Award ($100 cash scholarship), and the Self-Expression Award ($100 cash scholarship).

As the scholastic winner, Towe will receive a $3,500 per year scholarship to Lindsey Wilson College, a $3,000 per year scholarship to Campbellsville University, a $1,500 per year scholarship to St. Catherine College, or a $3,000 scholarship to the Galen College of Nursing.   In addition to the cash scholarships, Towe earned her choice of a $3,000 per year scholarship to Kentucky Wesleyan College, a $3,000 per year scholarship to Campbellsville University, or a $4,000 scholarship to the Galen College of Nursing.

Anderson was named as first alternate ($700 cash scholarship).  In addition to the cash scholarships, Anderson will also have a choice of a $2,500 scholarship to Kentucky Wesleyan College, a $2,500 scholarship to Campbellsville University, or a $3,000 scholarship to Galen College of Nursing. Anderson is the 17-year old daughter of Mickey and Amanda Anderson.

Pearson was named as second alternate ($500 cash scholarship). Pearson received the Talent Award ($100 cash scholarship) and the Elmer Bashore “Spirit of Junior Miss Award” ($100 cash scholarship). In addition to the cash scholarships, Pearson will receive the option of a $2,000 per year scholarship to Kentucky Wesleyan College or a $2,000 per year scholarship to Campbellsville. She is the daughter of Donna Pearson.

All participants also earn a $1,000 per year scholarship to Lindsey Wilson or a $6,000 to $10,000 per year scholarship to Randolph College.

The cash scholarship awards were made possible by contributions to the local program from local organizations, individuals, and businesses.

Towe----the 17-year old daughter of Brad and Diane Towe---will represent Allen County at the 2022 Kentucky Distinguished Young Woman Program in January in Lexington.
