Performing Arts Receive Donation

(by Don Meador, March 23, 2022)

Allen County students engaged in the performing arts will reap the benefits of a combined $2,200 gift from the Allen County-Scottsville Arts Council.

“This donation is part of our role of supporting and encouraging arts in Allen County,” explained John Buchanon, the president of the Allen County-Scottsville Arts Council.

The Arts Council has been a supporter of the Allen County School District for years with activities planned and presented to enhance the arts in the schools. In the past, the council has organized arts-related school programs and brought special guests to the schools to spotlight various forms of arts---something that has been absent recently. .

“Due to the pandemic in the last two years, we have not been able to do what we usually do,’ added Arts Council member Sue Neal Roberts, “We usually try to do one event per school, per year and we have not been able to. This donation will allow each department to use as they see fit and hopefully next year we can get back to normal.”

The Allen County Primary Center and the Allen County Intermediate Center music programs will each receive $400. The James E. Bazzell Middle School band and choir departments each received $300. The Allen County-Scottsville High School band and choir departments also received $300. In addition, the drama program at the high school received $200.

In addition to the various in-school programs supported by the Arts Council, summer programs involving Allen County students also are possible through the support of the local arts council.
