Allen
County-Scottsville senior KayLee Stafford ripped a single between short and
third to plate courtesy runner Kaylee Bullington and give the Lady Patriots a
4-3 walk-off win over Barren County Tuesday night in a District 15 contest at
Lady Patriot Field in Scottsville.
Stafford’s RBI was part of a two-run seventh inning. Trailing by one
after Barren County’s Hayden Sutherland scored the go-ahead run in the top of
the seventh, senior Lady Patriot Kassi Bullington tripled to start the home-half
of the inning. With Madi Gregory at the plate, Kassi Bullington raced home to
tie the game on a sinking fastball that sailed passed the Trojanette catcher.
Two-out singles by Kris-Anne Pardue and Bailey Ausbrooks were followed by Barren
County pitcher Maddie Green hitting Jae McReynolds. The hit batsman loaded the
bases and set the stage for Kaylee Bullington---running for Pardue---to score
the winning run.
Barren County plated two runs in the top of the first. The Trojanettes
maintained their lead until Lady Patriot Taylor Stamps singled home McReynolds
in the fourth. Two innings later, a solo home run by Ausbrooks---the second of
the season for the eighth-grader---tied the game.
AC-S (12-3-1, 3-0) finished with four runs on 11 hits. Stafford, Kassi
Bullington, Ausbrooks, and McReynolds each recorded two hits to lead the Lady
Patriot offense. Barren County (7-5, 2-2) registered seven hits off Pardue.
The Lady Patriot return to action Friday with a home contest against
Logan County (4-2). Barren County travels to Logan County Thursday. AC-S and
Barren will meet again on May 1 in Glasgow.
