Allen County-Scottsville Ella Anderson repeated as the 2A Sectional Golf individual champion and led the Lady Patriot team to a third consecutive 2A Sectional team championship at the 2A Sectional Tournament Monday at Park Mammoth Golf Course in Park City. The Lady Patriot team moves to the 2A state next month. On the boys side, senior Barton Rutledge placed second individually to also qualify to advance to the state 2A Championship tournament.
Anderson carded a 42 on her first nine holes (holes 10-18 on the course). Despite struggles on her final nine, Anderson finished the day with a round of 85, one stroke better than Abigail Hogg from Edmonson County. Last year, Anderson shot 84 on the same course and won a scorecard playoff over teammate Kennedy Carter to take medalist honors.
This year, Carter finished with a 91 on the day. Despite her 21-over par round, she tied for third in the field. Senior teammate Allison Ford also found making shots difficult, coming home with a 95. Her round earned her a fifth place finish. Senior Kaytee Shelton carded a 97 to place in a tie for seventh.
The Lady Patriots’ team score of 368 earned AC-S the team title and automatic qualification for the 2A Championships in Owensboro. Last year, AC-S finished as the 2A state tournament runner-up.
Rutledge’s day included three birdies and a bogey on the opening nine holes. His back nine saw the senior bogey twice (holes 13 and 15) to finish with an even par round of 70. Griffin Jackson from Glasgow captured medalist honors with a 69. Rutledge returns to the 2A state tournament looking to improve upon last year’s sixth place finish.
Patriot senior Owen Talbott tallied a 78 to place among the top eight golfers in the field. Freshman Lane Temple shot an 85, Kaden Stinson posted an 87, and Simon Stamper finished with an 89. The Patriots’ overall score of 320 placed them fourth in the eight-team field.
The Lady Patriot golfers will join the Patriot golfers for a home match Thursday at the Scottsville Country Club. The Patriots return to the course tomorrow with a match against Glasgow at Willow Oakes.
