Allen County and south-central Kentucky endured a historic winter storm in late January. Ice and snow started on Saturday, January 24 with accumulations of both in the coming days disrupting lives for thousands in the local community. In the midst of the storm, linemen from multiple power companies, local first responders, city, county, and state road crews and city/county workers, and National Guard members answered the call.
Leaving their own families behind, brave individuals stepped into below freezing temperatures and onto icy roads to answer calls for service. From power crews working to restore service and county water crews repairing broken lines to emergency responders answering 911 calls and Guardsmen checking on isolated citizens, many individuals made personal sacrifices for the benefit of others.
The athletic department at Allen County-Scottsville High School would like to recognize the groups who helped so many during the storm. On Thursday, February 19, AC-SH will have a special recognition of the men and women who stepped up. Lineman, county and city workers, transportation workers, the National Guard, and local first responders will be thanked as the school’s special guests.
AC-S will host Clinton County in the regular season’s finale at Patriot Gym. The Lady Patriots start at 6 p.m. with the recognition service held immediately following. The Patriots’ game followers.
Community members are invited to join AC-S basketball fans at the high school to offer a heartfelt “thank you” for all who risk their own lives to save lives and serve hurting and struggling neighbors.
