Volley Patriots Down Barren and Metcalfe

(by Don Meador, September 30, 2019)

The Allen County Scottsville Lady Patriot volleyball team has reached the 15-win mark for a third consecutive year. Wins in the past nine over Barren County and Metcalfe County has lifted ACS to 15-11 with three regular season games remaining.

ACS downed Barren County 2-0 (25-15, 25-2o) on September 24 to improve to 5-0 in District play. Maddie Stallings and Bre Varner each delivered six kills. Meg Foster finished with 19 assists with Olivia Brown registering eight digs. Service aces from Brown (5), Chloe Cook (4), and Meg Foster (4) enabled the Lady Patriots to stay in control.

Monday, the Lady Patriots have little problem in downing Metcalfe County 2-0 (25-14, 25-11).

In the opening set, an ace by Brown and a kill by Varner staked AC-S to a 6-2 lead. The Lady Hornets closed to within two points before a kill from C.J. Towe ignited AC-S on a 6-2 run. Kill shots from Cook, an ace by Jaden Carter, and a kill at the net lifted the Lady Patriots to a 14-8 lead. Solid play the rest of the way enabled the Lady patriots to close the set on am 11-5 run.

The story was much the same in the second set. After Metcalfe County tied the set at three early, a Towe kill, a Foster ace, and a Cook winner lifted AC-S to an 8-4 lead. Towe continued a strong game at the net to enable the Lady Patriots to gradually build their lead. A service winner by Cook gave AC-S an 18-8 lead with the Lady patriots closing out the set and the match on a 7-3 run.

AC-S (5-11) hosts Edmonson County on Thursday. The squad will be off next week due to fall break.
