Allen County Schools News Article

Bazzell is 4-Star School; ACPC, ACIC, and AC-SH are 3-Star Schools

The Allen County School System showed improvement at all areas under Kentucky’s new 5-star accountability system. Reports for each school and the District were released on October 1 in the online School Report Card (www.kyschoolreportcard.com).

A number of accountability indicators factor into a school’s overall 5-star rating. At the elementary and middle school levels, accountability consists of indicators in math and reading proficiency, proficiently in social studies, science and writing, and student growth. At the high school level, math and reading proficiency, proficiency in science and writing, graduation rate, and transition readiness make up the indicators for the 5-state rating.

Schools can also be federally designated as Comprehensive support and Improvement (CSI) or Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ASTI). These designations are part of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and are indicators of low performing schools or schools with large achievement gaps among subgroups.

For the 2018-2019 school year, the Allen County Primary Center (ACPC), the Allen County Intermediate Center (ACIC), and the Allen County-Scottsville High School (AC-SH) were designated as “3-star” schools. The James E. Bazzell Middle School (JEBMS) earned a “4-star” rating.

Bazzell Middle School had a “high” rating in the proficiency (77.0) and Growth (58.1) indicators and “medium” rating in the Separate Academic Indicator (66.4) which measures proficiency in science, social studies, and writing. JEBMS’s overall score was 67.2.

Allen County-Scottsville High School had the highest overall score at 67.6. Both Transition Readiness---formally College and Career Readiness---(84.2) and graduation rate (96.2) were rated as “high” with the Transition Readiness increased by 18.2 points from the previous year.

Allen County Primary Center and the Allen County Intermediate center earned “3-star” ratings. ACPC had an overall score of 65.1 and ACIC had an overall score of 63.8. The intermediate Center’s proficiency (74.7) and Growth (56.2) indicators were both designated as “medium.”

No school in the Allen County School District was labeled as CSI or ASTI for the 2018-2019 school year.
